It all depends on how much it's going to run you honestly.
Also another thing to consider in this case is that the 20h is 9:1 compression instead of 8:1 so you could wind up with tuning issues.

Re: Which heads on an ej20h shortblock
The STi heads are the best bet performance wise hands down. Personally it would be no discussion if it were me.

Re: 95 Legacy LS sedan strut fitment Q
95-99 legacy uses the exact same rear bolt pattern as 02-07 impreza, trust me I've owned more second gen's than first.

Re: ej25d swap question
The ej25d is not a good choice to replace an ej22 in my opinion. They're prone to blow head gaskets and spin bearings. Getting one from a junkyard and not rebuilding it is similar to playing Russian Roulette with 3 bullets in the revolver. Otherwise the swap will be pretty simple. You'll need to use...

Re: 03 Outback transmission in first gen legacy?
My second gen is sensor driven, that said I had to swap speed sensors. Mine is a 2 wire, 00-whenever is a 3 wire. The speed sensor/cable location is the same though until they stopped using an independent sensor for it. I'm not sure exactly when they made the change to no vss of the trans, but I do ...

Re: New tranny messing up
No that doesn't sound like a linkage adjustment. Was the trans pan in any way bent or dented before or during the installation? If they're bent just a little they can cause problems, there isn't much clearance in there.

Is the linkage adjusted correctly? That'd be the first place I would check.

Re: 95 Legacy LS sedan strut fitment Q
The impreza struts will work, but you'll have to use your original rear top mounts. It will sit slightly lower in the rear than with legacy struts by roughly half an inch. You can also use 02-07 impreza/wrx struts and springs front and rear and 04 sti front/04-07 sti rear.

Re: Transmission swap question.
You can avoid the rear diff swap on a wrx transmission by swapping out your ss transfer and extension housing. The wrx uses a 1.1:1 transfer gear which is why they have a 3.9 front and 3.54 rear. by, and using the ss 1:1 transfer gears you eliminate this problem.

Re: Lifting my 94 need input!!
They use the same taper as 04-07 impreza springs, the top hat is actually the same part number. So you'll need to use the 90/91 legacy hats.

Re: ej22 na turbo help pls
Up to 98 the transmissions are electronically the same. Biggest difference between them would be the ones from a gen 2 legacy will have an electronic vss instead of the cable, which is easily swapped. Easiest way to identify phase 1 from phase 2 would be the bolt holes on the bellhousing, phase 1 ha...

Re: Lifting my 94 need input!!
Physically they've bolt up fine in the front. The rear will need either the top hat swapped or a hole drilled in the strut tower just like fitting wrx or sti suspension. You will probably have to massage the area of the wheel well directly behind the rear struts so they don't hit that area of the ca...

Re: Lifting my 94 need input!!
Yeah, they're over rated. 96-99 outback struts give the same lift as 04-08 fxt struts and are cheaper plus your springs will swap perfectly. Unless you're planning on using the fxt strut and spring combo it's not worth the extra money for them.

Re: Lifting my 94 need input!!
I didn't have to flip mine and I was lifted 3+ inches with strut and spring combo. If you have fitment issues find a set of 96-99 outback swap bar mounts, they're about an inch and a half longer than stock.

I could have the job done in a couple hours, if I had to fight with rusty bolts and stuff a little longer.

Re: 03 Outback transmission in first gen legacy?
Some people have said they're stronger, but cannot vouch for that personally. I do feel like they are smoother shifting than phase 1s. The casing is different, but no so much that you can't use them. I have an 05 rs trans in my 97 Legacy and it went in perfectly fine. Keep in mind that there is no s...

Re: Lifting my 94 need input!!
The outback struts provide about an inch and a half lift, the spacers are about an inch. So roughly half inch more clearance assuming stock size tires, you'll gain more going with bigger tires. Stock legacy is roughly 24" whereas stock outback are 26" so you'll gain another inch there. Sup...

Re: Lifting my 94 need input!!
The spacers lower the drivetrain, and corrects some suspension alignment. As well as decreasing stress on the axle joints. However, they do nothing to the wheel gap. I myself have ran 3" over stock height with no side effects on the axles. There are some who say they're necessary, but I am not ...
