I've given up. Ripping the engine out this weekend. I've got an STi V4 engine sitting here so I'll drop that in for now and wire it up with one of my standalones.

Many people do just drop them in but many people are also just mediocre engine builders as well. You can just drop them in but there will be some small gains in finishing them before install. I can't guess at how many more horsepower but with a large bore engine like these any sort of knock resistan...

Like any piston manufacturer wiseco has strengths and weaknesses. I find that they require a considerable number of hours in deburring and prepping before they're ready to install. Personally I like CP's better because you can pull them out of the box and drop them in the engine. If you have a spare...

Yes I am looking at the crank and cam sensor outputs with a scope. I believe the sensors are good but the ECU doesn't. The wiring has been hacked up so there is no way to plug in a subaru scan tool...

Codes 11 and 13

My car started throwing a code 11. It runs like a bag of crap, if you give it any amount of gas it dies. Idle is stuck at 3000 RPM. Previous owners have rewired it and it's a mess. It's also my beater so I'm hoping to make it through the winter. So I pulled the cam sensor out. It's fairly beat up. S...

I take it you have never actually removed an EJ22 head gasket? There is no way in hell that gasket could ever be reused. They tear up and get shredded to pieces upon removal. I have never worked on any other engine that requires so much head and block clean up before reassembly with new head gasket...

You can also get test kits for headgasket related problems. I think they test for hydrocarbons in the coolant and ethylene glycol in the oil. You can also look at the oil and see if it's milky. Gorilla snot we call it.

Here is a solution... Get a wideband that has a narrowband output with a remapping function. Then remap the narrowband output so it switches over around 15.1:1 instead of 14.7. This should allow the factory ECU to trim out on the lean side during cruise. I generally tune turbo hondas to be a tad lea...

Before a million internet parrots tell you to change the gasket realise this... If it's an MLS gasket it's not uncommon to re-use the gasket anyway. It's very common to double torque head bolts on performance engines anyway. I've done it dozens of times with 0 issues. I've never re-used a gasket but...

In my opinion the SDS is junk. It lacks many features necessary for good driveabillity. It is very simple and that's why it's inexpensive. I find even megasquirt is better and that's not saying too much. Your idea of leaning things out will rely on cylinder balancing. Similar to the GAMI (sp?) injec...

The EJ20K heads flow well to 7600 RPM on a 2.0l engine. On a 2.2l you may need to drop this off a little. If you do some port work to the heads they can be improved a little but they flow pretty well in stock form.

WTB spare cam sensor?

My car is throwing a code 13 and runs like a can of crap. I'm going to see if I can retrofit a sensor from one of my other subie engines. Failing that does anyone have a spare cam sensor they'd like to sell?

Hm. That makes sense. Does the ECU sample the atmospheric pressure constantly or is it a one time thing? It's experiencing a little hesitation during cruise and I wonder if it's related to bad barometer values. Man I need to figure out the factory triggering scheme.

I'm getting a code 45.
45 Pressure Sensor Duty Solenoid (Turbo Models)

I wonder if this is the boost solenoid they're talking about. Ring a bell with anyone?

Just wanted to provide an update on this issue for anyone with the same problem. I've solved the issue. It was an intermitant CLT failure. The sensor would read properly but if you shook it the resistance would jump to infinite. Obviously the sensor element has worked its way loose inside. So when I...

People like to piss on the EJ25 as being a weak motor. I've successfully tuned them to 15 PSI and they've run for years without a problem. A lot of it is in the tuning. I certainly don't recommend cranking them that high but it is quite possible. If you pull out the innards and look at them they're ...

No power windows...

My car has been parked while I worked on obtaining an STi engine. Now I'm going to run it until the EJ22 finally dies then swap in the EJ20K. When I pulled it out of the snowbank and into the shop I've found that none of the power windows work. I haven't been able to locate any fuse for that and one...

The easiest thing I found was to just get the 1999 MAF element for the Impreza and adjust its range according to the size housing you put it in. I've done this successfully on Mazdas replacing their crappy VAF meter.

I did some datalogging today. Seems that the O2 is only part of the problem. I'm beginning to suspect it's got a weak ground on the MAF. When idling it will be sending 1.25v and running about 10:1. Then it starts leaning out as if the O2 correction is kicking in but the MAF voltage is dropping. It e...

Internet parrots have been blindly repeating the lag story for years. I've done dozens of FMIC kits on a variety of cars and have yet to detect a noticeable amount of lag. In many cases replacing restrictive factory piping and poorly flowing factory IC's give less lag.

It does only take about 5-10 seconds to trim the fuel up to stoich but the starting point appears to be stored and averaged so as soon as you leave that particular RPM/airflow point it will load another trim starting point. Over time of seeing lots of negative correction it will eventually trim ever...

Looks to me like it's PID based (looking at the overshoot and settling time) and they've obviously got a map of EGO corrections with some sort of average learning. On startup it used to start at 8.8:1 (ugh!) and climb to 12.5. Now it idling it starts at about 11.5:1 and idles up to 14.7 so it's slow...

I'm not sure about the MAF being in good shape or not but I hooked my wideband's NB output up so the ECU thought it had an O2 hooked up. After a few minutes the AFR has reached the 12.5:1 area and I believe it may climb as time passes. About my hesitation problem it only starts happening after a few...
