How to remove cover over shifter

1993 Legacy, automatic. I need to get under that cover over the shift lever to get rid of all the locking mess. The solenoid has been dead for years. We have been using the release button, and according to the wife she had to keep messing with that to get it out of park at the store today. Is there ...

Re: Engine oil leak?

If it was power steering, that would be empty. Yeah will clean it at some point. No big rush deal right now. It looks like there maybe an oil feed hole up top for the head so likely the head gasket.

Engine oil leak?

The good old 93 legacy, JDM 2.0 replacement engine has a leak that looks like its on top the RH bank (passenger side) under the intake manifold, and leaking down that side. Its been so long I forget is the oil sender in that area? Or is the normal problem head gasket related? Okay figured out where ...

Re: ATF leak between pump and transmission '93 Legacy

I have done so on a non working transmission some years ago, that is installing the torque converter, when I tried the as sitting on the pan or installed position, it really messed up the converter bearing and I never got it to engage. What worked good was to stand the transmission on the rear end a...

Looking for Transmission/ differential info

After watching this, I started looking for any special tools for the 4eat, no luck yet. Any good ideas where to find the tool for what is shown in this video? And yeah what he is doing is not a good idea, as the ring and pinon back lash needs to be checked when doing this. I am also curious about th...

Re: 1993 Legacy HVAC blower resister assembly

Notice the small band or conductor in the center of the 2 long conductors. That band is normally soldered to the bottom of the middle contact point it touches. It also has a bit of spring to it so when it heats up it melts the solder and flys off that contact. So like I said above you can use some s...

Re: Fuel pump 1993 Legacy HELP

A resurrection of this thread. The old junk yard pump has been slowing dying, so got one from Auto zone that was the proper 2 inch diameter, the connections on the pump are threaded studs, the negative side was a bit larger so I had to cut and replace the eye connector with one that had a larger hol...

1993 Legacy HVAC blower resister assembly

Don't throw out your old one, or original Subaru version. They are though a unit that is designed to fail. There is a terminal that has what is like a metal strip conductor similar to a flat spring that is soldered to it. Two stupid things they did. 1st is using solder, 2nd is the side of the termin...

Re: Fuel pump 1993 Legacy HELP

Its not that the replacement pumps should be smaller than the original. It just happens that some are made that way and pump about half the amount that the original will. Really you ask why blade connectors would be bad in a gasoline environment? Just if for some reason they or one came off and or g...

Re: Motor seized and looking for other options that is n/a for a 1994 legacy wagoooon

I did an EJ20 swap years ago into a 93 Legacy, not sure about what phase it was, but what I found you needed was the correct exhaust ports. Intake manifold and other external parts that were not the same were transplanted from the original EJ22.

Re: Fuel pump 1993 Legacy HELP

So if you have 3/4 tank of fuel and your driveway is slopped a bit and the front of the car is pointing down hill, its okay to remove the fuel pump. The fuel pump is on the passenger side of a normal US left driver car. The most difficult part of the whole job is finding a replacement pump, the ones...

Fuel pump 1993 Legacy HELP

I am amazed there is nothing online about it. IT IS NOT UNDER THE SEAT. You flip the seat backs down and remove the screws that hold the trunk carpet to the seat back, and then pull that carpet up and to the rear of car. Now what I really need is the connector pin out descriptions for the fuel pump ...

Re: Expansion valve ?

I ended up not adding any to the dryer. Since I was interrupted its a guess of about 160 to 170 cc's total. And so far just added around 22 oz of refrig and it is blowing cold. Pressures? How far can I trust harbor freight gauges? The tag in the car said 28 oz of R12, and I found a site that said us...

Re: Expansion valve ?

So the information I found in a 92 online manual, it says 70 cc of oil in the compressor, 70 cc in the evaporator, 50 cc in condenser, and says not really necessary in the receiver drier. I also had found generic listing of oil quantity and I think it was a total of 180 cc's. So far got the compress...

Re: Expansion valve ?

I found one in a wrecking yard. Its the aluminum tube that connects the outlet hose from the evaporator. I had to file the large threads as they were kind of galled. I thought there was a link in this thread about the quantity's of oil to add to the various components? It must have been another thre...

Re: Expansion valve ?

Went to dealer, and its one crappy parts picture on that computer, and it showed no separate pipe from the evaporator and of course no longer available.
So now that project is on hold. I'll keep posting what I end up doing.

Re: Expansion valve ?

I got some sparkles after flushing stuff. My latest problem is I was in the process of bench assembling the system to check for leaks. And when removing the small tube that screws on the big outlet pipe that goes through the firewall it was kinda tight, well the threads where corroded and the new nu...

Re: Air Condition oil?

The shop that did the conversion said he uses PAG 100 and I have seen other info on using that in the old subaru's. So that is what I will use. I've taken out all the ac stuff and done a good flush, and since it is not recommended to flush the compressor its likely best to just replace with a rebuil...

Air Condition oil?

So for 134 I guess pag 100 is what to use? The rebuild compressor came with something like pag 45 or 50 don't remember for sure. So do I leave that, or do I drain it and use pag 100 in the compressor before installing it? The pag # is the viscosity I think, so I would think drain the thicker stuff o...

Re: Expansion valve ?

The whole ac system is removed from the car. Next will be cleaning it all up, and then assemble it all on the floor, and vacuum it and check for leaks. And when I get the time, I'll put it all back in. The outfit that converted it to 134 of course did not do it the correct way and the compressor got...

Re: Expansion valve ?

Okay it worked great, but I also loosened the 3 mount bolts for the fan assembly that attach it to the fire wall, to give it a bit of wiggle room. I could not work the firewall seal off the pipes, so kinda fed some of it in to the interior a bit. It easily pulled through the firewall with the box. S...
