No limiter on the UK cars either. Saw 125 and still in fourth gear... Obviously not on a road though...

Nasty - sorry to hear about the whole situation. On the bright side tho', you seem to have some options about what to do next - get your car repaired paid for by the insurance, get it totalled then buy it back and fix it yourself or take the cash and get another one! Either way you end up with a dec...

Same on this side of the pond. We're now on the 8th iteration of the Mitsu Lancer Evo and they seem extrordinarily fast. The last couple (maybe 3) versions have had a switchable centre diff with settings for gravel, tarmac and snow. Apparently they are (a) mainly rwd biased, (b) 50/50 split and (c) ...

Bodywork - advice please?

My Legacy estate(wagon) is pretty rusty along the bottom edge of the driver's door, top of both front arches, under the tail window and (worst) along the top edge of the front screen. I guess the options are: (1) Get a reputable bodyshop to repair and respray (anyone know a good UK bodyshop?) (2) Ge...

I'm currently getting ~160 to a tank. Barely above 10 mpg. Any thoughts guys? -Brian I haven't had this problem with my Legacy Turbo (I get around 24mpg (imperial not US) in town and 28ish on a run) but my previous Ford Sierra XR4x4 (see http://www.fasterfords.dk/other/The%20sapphire%2087%20range.h...

My Legacy ALWAYS howls a little on startup, kind of like when your fanbelt starts to slip. However the tension on the belts all seems fine. A mechanic friend suggested that throwing talc (aka baby powder) onto the pulleys helps to stop the slippage. Tried it - didn't work (maybe it's the wrong brand...

Great story about air horns. Mate of mine some years back decided to put triple 'trumpet style' air horns into a Ford Escort (UK Mark 1 for those who know). Being a bit of a klutz when it came to DIY he nonetheless decided to install them himself. There wasn't a lot of space under the bonnet (hood) ...

I haven't had my car long enough to even think about performance parts, but for the essentials I use Subaru Spares. They're based in Yorkshire somewhere and you can call them on +44 (0) 1422 846868. My mate Mark who owned my Subie for the previous four years used them all the time and recommended th...

They have their own separate button in the same panel as the front fog light switch (it may be a blank in the US cars). It's actually the only car I've ever seen with a separate switch for headlight washers...

Headlight washers

My right headlight washer was broken when I got the car. I've sourced a used replacement.

Does anyone know exactly what bonds the unit to the bumper (fender)?

OK - I may have a go when I feel up to it (pencil that in for sometime 2005 then! )

It's just one of those little things that gets a bit irritating but takes way too long to sort out.

Demist/Fog light switches - do they light up?

Anyone know if the switch panel with the rear demist/front & rear fogs and headlight washer switches light up? I know that most of the switches have an orange panel which lights up when they're on, but is there a light which comes on with the headlights (like the nice one in the centre console s...

<gulp> middle aged!

Hi guys. I'm 34 (35 in November) and own a '93 5-speed manual Turbo Estate (wagon for you guys on the other side of the pond). Bought it off a mate who owned it for about four years and absolutely LOVE it! It's completely stock and even though it has 182,000 miles on it it only cost me two bulbs to ...
