[off-topic] Not going for Panther yet - the feeling around these parts seems to be to wait for NEXT year's update instead of lashing out for each annual upgrade. In any case I'm using a clamshell iBook so I think these OS updates are only going to be relevant for a little while longer...[/off-topic]...

First of all, Dr Nick is Dr Nick Riviera from the Simpsons - I'm not a doctor of anything... It's just a web-handle 8) Insurance is a bit of a killer, but not as bad as it could be. For example I'm paying less for my turbo estate than I was for a Sierra XR4x4 which I had previously. The best advice ...

Hi and welcome from another Brit! £3k seems like a reasonable price, but can they prove the mileage? I've seen too many people lash out good money on a 'low mileage' car and then discover lots of problems later. Condition is ALL!! If at all possible try and drive another turbo of similar age prior t...

Forgive me for getting a little philosophical but I've been here before and done this both ways. Pro doing up the Legacy: the satisfaction of creating something unique; the 'sleeper' qualities; having something that EXACTLY matches your requirements Anti: you'll never get anything like the value bac...

No salt depends on WHERE in the UK. Up in the north of scotland they use quite a lot of salt mixed into the sand on the roads at this time of year... (guess where I originate from!) http://www.multimap.com/p/browse.cgi?pc=iv30&GridE=&GridN=&scale=50000&title=hometown&cat=h for th...

I may be being daft, but I thought the whole concept of a centre differential was to allow for different speeds on different wheels. Why should you need to change a front and rear tyre instead of across an axle? I understand the concept of 'if you change the left disc, change the right one too' beca...

Depends where in Oxfordshire you are, but you could do worse than speak to the guys at Fenny Compton Garage in Warwickshire (Tel: 01295 770244). They're official dealers but really friendly and helpful. My Legacy has over 180,000 miles on it but they still take me seriously when I drop in! Turbo sal...

The only differences I can see between that and my '92 UK model is the non-body-coloured door handles and the absence of headlight washers.

Over here the iX BMWs are as rare as hen's teeth! I don't like them because (a) the engine has all the power at the top end which doesn't work terribly well with an auto 'box and (b) tranny parts are hugely difficult to get in the UK. If you can get the parts and it's a manual, go for it and have lo...

Really bad news for Richard Burns

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/world_rally/3277637.stm I knew that Burns had fainted at the wheel of his road car on the way to the Welsh (UK) Rally but this is some really bad news. I've never been a great fan of his, but I wouldn't wish this on anyone... Richard was supposed to be dri...

You learn something new every day! I've got a contact with a GTB tt estate and he's certainly never complained about a lack of performance... It's all relative anyway - another friend went from a single-turbo Legacy to a 4.2litre V8 Audi and said it felt slow in comparison because there was no 'boos...

Have you seen (or bought) the car? I've never heard of any GTV other than the inevitable Alfa Romeo! A search on Google shows up no results (almost unheard of). Are you positive it's not just a misprint?

Got a V6 Ford Cougar last night. He passed me doing about 90 in a 40 zone. Next set of lights I was right behind him with a beautiful uphill dual carriageway ahead. Off the lights he goes for it and I sit right behind him WAY faster than I ever drive. Coming up to the next island he goes to change l...

I haven't used any of my door locks for over a year now. And before any of you start on about flat remote batteries etc, I renew them every yea...
