Well, that all certainly makes sense. More sense than my first thought that the cylinder had never ever fired! hahah I've never done headgaskets on a car that had blown one before, only precautionary replacements.

Thanks everyone!

Do OEM headgaskets require a sealant?

I'm replacing the headgaskets on my '90 Legacy L and I need to know if the OEM gaskets need a sealant as well.

thanks!

Well this is really weird.

I'm in the middle of replacing my headgaskets on my '90 legacy L. I was removing the heads today when I came across something really strange. One of the combustion chambers looks like it has never ever seen a flame!! The top of the chamber on the head is clean and shiny and so is the piston!! This c...

The BEST wrench I've found for a cam/crank is an old timing belt segment attached to a 1"x1"x18" stick. Just make a small loop out of the belt when you attach it to the stick so it slides over the cam sproket and has enough room to wrap up 'tight'. Works everytime and costs all of 5 ...

Well that's good to hear. The manual says to do so which is why I started. Now I just need to figure out how to tighten that drivers side sprocket bolt. Thanks for your help!

And why do you even need to remove the sprockets to get the heads off? Can't you just take it all off at once? I'm just going to replace the headgasket and put it back together.

Just a quick update. I tried the big screwdriver method and broke the drivers side bolt loose but then the damn sprocket jumped to the right. I guess the valve springs are compressed when the timing marks are aligned. Anyway, now I can't get the sprocket lined up again. Should I just not worry about...

cam gears/sprockets removal tips

I am doing the headgaskets on my '90 non-turbo legacy and am stuck on how to get the cam gears off without a chain wrench or something similar. Can it be done?

Thanks!

WTB: A decent radiator that will fit a '90 auto, N/A, FWD

Looking for a decent condition radiator that will fit my '90 Legacy. It's a non-turbo, FWD, automatic model. Don't need the fans or anything else, just the radiator. Looking for something cheap.

Thanks,
Brandon

Yes, $70 shipped for the pair. Send me your email and I will send you pics.

The storage compartment takes the place of the second DIN slot below whatever headunit you have.

It turns out I have two of the under dash trim panels. The grey one does not have the pop out tray but I have a light brown one that does. $20 shipped for the grey one and $25 shipped for the light brown one. I also found a storage compartment thing that goes under the radio and has the pop-up door ...
