Yeah, that sounds pretty bogus then.

Re: 2013 Subaru BRZ Track Test
Probably sounds better from inside. Looks like it might be a fun car to drive that's actually balanced and built for people who have half a clue as to what they're doing and not for lawyers, insurance companies, and posers. So rare these days. I have to say that I'm really tempted and if I didn't dr...

I'm throwing out a set of door cards because these cars are all but extinct around here and shipping is too outrageous. Already threw out the seats.

Re: Koyo & Mishimoto Radiator Failures!!! (Legacy Turbo Mode
Yeah, that makes sense as brittle plastic will just break elsewhere, but I still wonder if a new unit could be reinforced if the break is at a stress point, say a flange or something where it meets the aluminum section. Of course, if it's just in the middle of a flat, then there's not much you could...

Re: Koyo & Mishimoto Radiator Failures!!! (Legacy Turbo Mode
Has anyone tried plastic welding the OEM radiators with cracked end tanks? I don't know what kind of plastic they use and if it's weldable, but if so, it may be able to repair them cheaply and more easily than the aftermarket aluminum. If it is a weldable thermoplastic, you might even be able to rei...

80 degrees here the last 2 days and I think we got a total of 6" of snow all winter. I guess the shit weather we lacked ended up in AK.

Re: Sexiest Legacy in existence?
That holds for other things, as well. My wood kayak is beautiful, but the plastic one can be dragged over rocks, get too close to rugged shorelines, and cost nothing to maintain (as opposed to having the finish touched up every season or so and redone maybe every 5 years depending on usage). And my ...

Re: OK to drive with old fuel?
Josh has a point and boats often run on old gas (not diesel, though—if that sits too long, this kelp-like bacteria grows wild in it and hopelessly clogs the tank) without issue. The rule of thumb is to fill it or empty it for storage and stick some water absorber and stabilizer in it. However, that ...

Re: OK to drive with old fuel?
Yeah, you might have to wait for a free hazmat "turn in" date. It also helps to be friends with a mechanic who regularly gets hazmat picked up (of course, fuel isn't among the usual collected fluids). My city was ridiculous with the off date disposal, wanting to charge me $500 minimum they...

Re: rocker panels and rear quarter panel replacements
I haven't seen them available. I got a decent set cut off of a part-out, but I was going to make my own until then. I'm using automotive epoxy to put mine on. I'm cutting the area out, flanging it, then epoxying the "new" pieces into place. The seam will still have to be filled with glass ...

Re: OK to drive with old fuel?
Fresh gas should clean out the varnish in the lines and such over time as well. Just plan on replacing a fuel filter or two.

I think a rally car is a better daily driver. With idiots driving into it, hitting it with doors and things they can't load into their vehicle without smacking them into your car parked next to them, shopping carts making a break for freedom, sand blasting, random road debris, trucks throwing retrea...

Re: How many FWD owners here?
Duchess is still FWD and will remain that way until/if I convert it to RWD. I almost never had issues with traction and torque steer was never a problem either. I drove "performance" all seasons year round and that only sucked with one brand of tire. Also, the better mileage from the 3.7 F...

Re: My book—Midnight in a Perfect World
Reviews for Midnight in a Perfect World on Amazon are always appreciated! Most book selling sites pick up their reviews from Amazon, so reviews left there really get around. Nobody's added any in years. Liking the page on Facebook is also good and I somewhat update that more often. Strangely, there ...

Re: My book—Midnight in a Perfect World
As it goes, my publisher is pretty much out of business, so my goal is to get the second book available on my own this year. I have my sister, who has some experience with editing, working on that aspect and I'm going to get James Vining, the author who did the original cover to do this one as well....

Re: found a 90-91 legacy ss in junkyard
The bare blocks as halves are actually really light and not too huge a size. I sold a set to someone who's petite girlfriend or sister or someone took them with her on a train back to New York. I didn't weigh them, but I don't think she had any trouble with them. I'd say they were maybe 15 lbs/ea. I...

Most badass, no, but it does look real nice for that kind of look and seems a much more expensive car (that paint job does a great deal towards that).

Re: head questions
I thought it already had the head gaskets done. Head gasket failure will very rarely show in the oil or coolant. It tends to go at the fire ring and combustion gases build up in the cooling system, collecting at the water pump cavity until they're enough to cause impeller cavitation and overheating....

Re: head questions
Yeah, you'll have to take it apart to know. I think a burnt valve is most likely. If that's what it is, they're cheap and easy to replace. There is only one head casting for these engines and the cam gear just reverses from left to right. It's pretty clever. Between the N/A and turbo, the cam timing...
