Re: Electrical issues causing huge power loss
I have located the problem....at least on the wiring diagram, but cannot locate the area of problem in the actual car. Maybe you guys can help. There is a problem in the 2 main power wires coming off the alternator (held on with 10mm nut) and where they arrive at the main fuse box (under the hood). ...

Re: Maciek's 2.35L Turbo Build (Update CAR IS RUNNING!!!)
A little update on progress. I sold the 91 SS shown in pics on first page. Was sad for 5 minutes. boo hoo RSTi : LGT 5mt transmission getting a shine, waiting on all parts for the swap....should be here this week. I will try to pull it out next week if I get my wiring issue figured out on the 93 TW ...

Re: Electrical issues causing huge power loss
I gathered some additional data. I compared some resistances between my RSTi and TW. I took out the battery. First I took measurements between the (+) and (-) battery termainal connections. RSTi = 2KOhms and rising, TW 1.5KOhms and rising I took measurements from the alternator (+) to the (+) batter...

14v or more is what I was expecting.
What would be the process of testing the connector at the alternator?

Re: Electrical issues causing huge power loss
I checked the new alternator off the car at the auto parts store....14.6V The alternator on the RSTi puts out 15.2V when running and my wife's 98 LGT puts out 17V when running. The turbo wagon at 9.8V. I'll take some more measurements and update. I am guessing this is the problem, but not sure where...

Electrical issues causing huge power loss
This is on a 93 Turbo Wagon. I recently noticed an intermittent power loss....feels exactly like the TMIC popped off, fuel pump is going out or dirty MAF. But its none of those items. I can make this happen even more when turning on the headlights and heater....the car bogs down and dies. I thought ...

Re: Another blowby question...lots of info/Q's
Josh is correct about the PCV valve delete removing a source of vacuum. One way to help this, is to run a large hose as the vacuum pull on the catch can (from the intake to catch can). The setup Josh has described is superior to what I have....it retains more vacuum pull within that system, most imp...

Re: Another blowby question...lots of info/Q's
To really fight the blow-by, you need all breathers going to the catch can. The whole PCV tree by the turbo should be reworked to go to the catch can before running to the intake. Also, it would be nice to have the catch can drain back into the valve cover so it recirculates the oil it catches. On m...

Re: RS 6 spokes wont fit
I have seen it rub an my friends 91 wagon with RS 6 spokes and 205/50/16 tires. It did not rub on my 91SS and does not rub on my 93TW. My guess is that there is variation in the spring perch size/location within the strut product mix available. Hammer the perch or get the H&R/Bielstein coilovers...

Re: EJ22T stroker w/ EJ20 WRX heads Comression?
8.3:1 CR sounds right for that setup.
What rods are you using that are Phase 1 with the 52mm journals? I'd be interested in learning about these, since it is a much easier route to the Phase2 crank in Phase1 motor stroker build then the custom piston route I took.

Re: Engine question
It is similar theoretically to all the ej257/205 hybrids, since the combustion chambers on the ej205 heads are the same volume and also designed for the 2.0L bore. There is info out there on guys who had the combustion chambers cnc'd or machined. This might be a good option if the price is not too h...

Re: Engine question
You will have to run a 2.5L HG for sure. The thickness is up to you...depending on target CR. Just guessing, I think you'll have to run a little thicker HG then stock STi because of the smaller combustion chamber size....49cc on the 20H vs approx 52-54cc on the ej257 heads (I never personally CC'd t...

Re: Is 17x10 to wide?
It is possible to do some measuring and calculations for a ballpark estimate. Here is the visual breakdown of how offset works (just for reference). http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h196/swiftdrift/wheel_offset101new.jpg You can measure the distance between the strut and your current inner rim lip....

A little update. Put 500 miles on the motor so far. Did the second oil change and had a magnet full of metal (little afro looking thing) and disco ball, brainy looking oil...as expected. Still puffs a good cloud of oil on initial start up. I'm not sure how long this is supposed to last. I guess as l...

Great idea IronMonkey!!! Love it. I will give that a go once I get some time to get back into the garage. The wife and daughter got a little neglected toward the tail end on the swap...we were crashing the schedule.

Re: Maciek's 2.35L Turbo Build (Update CAR IS RUNNING!!!)
It is super fun to drive so far. I have put 300 miles on the motor so far since starting it up. A quick update on things going on since the first start up. I will get a video as soon as I sort out some pressing issues. 1. Stock clutch is slipping when boost comes on. I can tell there is a lot of tor...

Re: GC8 Sti aluminum control arms +wrx sway bar?
STi style endlinks (swivel style) are necessary to run the JDM control arms which only have one tab to mount the endlink to vs 2 tabs that sandwich the stock turbo Legacy type endlink. Then I really don't see a reason why you couldn't run any turbo sway bar. On my RS, I am using the turbo Legacy cro...

Re: Start nut size
I'm retarded....it is attached to the bellhousing. I just had to drill and tap my RS transmission bellhousing to be able to run the ej22t block.
Make sure the threads are not compromised on the stud. If there is a damaged thread, it might make it difficult to get even the correct nut started.

Maybe it's a 1.75 pitch. I know some of the metric bolts are impossible to find at hardware stores, especially the fine thread metric bolts. You are talking about the lower starter stud nut....correct? The 17mm hex size? If you take the starter to a machine shop, they should be able to help you figu...

I'm thinking it will put down 350+whp on the TEC 20g tuned for E85. I've seen the same model turbo put out 388 on a 2.5L.

Re: Maciek's 2.35L Turbo Build (Update CAR IS RUNNING!!!)
I LOVE the way it turned out. It has very nice off boost power. Spools up nicely (but I have it rev limited to 5K ATM for break in safety with very low ignition advance....like 10 degrees on E85. I will raise it to 7K redline after 1000 miles. I am currently working tuning cold starts every morning ...

Re: Maciek's 2.35L Turbo Build (Update 10.18.13)
