I have a 1990 legacy AWD auto with a bad transmission. I know a friend thats wrecked his 1993 impreza awd manual. what has to be done to put the manual in place of my auto?

while driving, I hear a clunking noise. The faster the car is going the louder and quicker the clunk happens. Only happens when the car is moving in any direction. Its been put on a lift and has been diagnosed as a cracked gear in the front differential. Does this sound plausable. 1990 Legacy Wagon ...
