No snap ring, you just want to be careful not to set the seal to deep. Although I guess you are now an expert on this :-)

There is a slight chamfer on the block halves. I set the outside of the seal to the bottom of the chamfer. If I recall it is about 1/8" at the most.

4EAT Transmission mount compatibility

Subject says it all. I have a 92SS with a broken transmission mount. The rubber blocks have separated from the upper mount on both sides and it contributes to a clunk when the rear end grabs. It seems the earlier legacy's use a two piece mount. The newer mounts are one piece. Before buying something...

First off if the diff was missing that bearing, I would be really suspicious about what else may have been left out. This is usually setup with the transmission out of the car. Here is the basic procedure to set the pre-load, but a few of assumptions and a caution first. 1. I am assuming the pinion ...

Did you have both caps off at the same time? If so, you are setting up more than just pre-load, you are also setting the depth the pinion gear meshses with the ring gear.

What did you do to the transmission? Is it still in the car?

The cummins turbo may take a while to spool up, but when it does WOW!

More to the point, your question is how much boost? I think a more appropriate question would be "how long"..

There is a fair bit of wiggle room for the seal, you could set the new one a bit shallower or deeper. Just be careful not to go too deep and block the oil return hole.

I would try a tire store. Let them know about the problem and they should be able to diagnose and give you an estimate. You can then have them repair it or You can then say thanks, let me think about it. Or you can both win if you say you would like to change the parts but will be back for an alignm...

Third gear relies on the high clutch pack. The problem could also be in the valve body ( a stuck valve ) or the TCU itself. I had a 4eat with this symptom and it turned out to be a burned up clutch pack. I wound up pulling the tranny and installing a master rebuild kit. The kit came with new steels ...

Your honors, your client is a moron. That would be me. I had the lines crossed between the wastegate actuator and supply. Now, the boost is limited to about 10PSI yay! The bad news, this only lasted about three runs and now it is back to 5PSI... My thinking is the wastegate and actuator are function...

I will check the wastegate operation. I was trying to keep the running commentary minimal. I live 7.5 miles from the highway. 3.5 miles on dirt and a one lane paved road for four miles. The car is plenty warm by the time I get to where I can open it up. In town, I was implying while running errands ...

boost weirdness

Here is one I haven't been able to figure out. When I first start up the car cold or hot, I consistently get one overboost to 20PSI with fuel cutoff if I don't back off. (It is a fun ride though) Here is the weirdness, after that first overboost it will consistently regulate boost at 5PSI no matter ...

This is very similar to what I did. I took a long 12mm bolt and ground away most of the bolt head leaving a hook. The grinding is done with the axis of the bolt parallel to the surface of the grinding wheel which leaves a lot of support for the hook. I then shaped the hook so it would fit through th...

The fusible link is in the fusebox under the hood.

My personal belief is you can't start troubleshooting a problem like this without the charging system and battery being at 100%.

good luck

A quick look at the 92 FSM wiring diagrams fig 25 shows the alternator output going through a fusible link to the battery. Given the symptoms you describe if the link was blown the car would run off the battery but not charge it back up. I am going to guess that once it is started it will run as lon...

EJ22T question

First off, this seems to be an incredible site for information, you guys have done an excellent job. Now on to business. I have a 93SS that was recently acquired. I bought it for $650 with a bad second gear (AT). I had recently rebuilt a 4eat and was willing to give this one a go. It turned out the ...
