Re: Is My Turbo Shot (92 Legacy SS)

How hard would this engine be to rebuild?

Re: Is My Turbo Shot (92 Legacy SS)

They said it sounded like a rod or something. I honestly don't remember. All I heard was, "Its the motor." Which is the last thing I wanted to hear, but was my biggest suspicion since I started hearing the noise.

Re: Is My Turbo Shot (92 Legacy SS)

I guess I'm the only Subaru owner to have a motor go out at 146000 miles. I have the worst luck. I hate life right now.

Re: Is My Turbo Shot (92 Legacy SS)

Well, the moment of truth is just about upon me. I'll be making that drive to Roopair in about an hour... I'll let you know the verdict.

What is ACVW? I am extremely saddened that my Vanagon's engine bit the dust.

Re: Is My Turbo Shot (92 Legacy SS)

It seems to make that rattling noise only when I rev the engine. At idle, the engine sounds strong, but when I rev it up, I hear the rattling. It makes me nervous, because I'm not sure if its the engine. I would like to take it to Roopair (Subaru repair shop in Tacoma), i just dont want the engine t...

Re: Is My Turbo Shot (92 Legacy SS)

Sorry for the long wait in between posts... Well, now that the engine in my 1989 VW Vanagon decided to go (really without much warning), I am hoping I'm not looking at an engine in my Subaru, too. I took a video of the rattling, but I noticed it may be hard to hear. If anyone can provide more insigh...

Re: Is My Turbo Shot (92 Legacy SS)

The waste gate sits under the chimney, that was what I tried moving. I think it is sitting higher than this photo. So when pulling the rod toward the dp, the waste gate would go down? I'm trying to figure out the turbo setup. Never had any trouble until recently, and I've learned a ton over the last...

Re: Is My Turbo Shot (92 Legacy SS)

Thanks for the reply. Is the waste gate accuator in the "chimney?" If so, it looks like it is up, do I need to try pushing down on it? If so, I think I tried that and it wouldn't budge. What is the dp? I need to find my camera so I can video tape the sound.

Thanks again!

Is My Turbo Shot (92 Legacy SS)

I was getting a growl as my RPM's got above 4K. I just thought it sounded cool, but in retrospect, it may have been a warning from my turbo. The other day I was driving it and now when I rev the engine above 4K or so, I get a knocking sound, almost like a valve. It sounds like its coming from the tu...

I probably am impatient. I read every post on this thread and figured if these other people were having success with the same limited information I had, then there must be something wrong with me. I found out how to put in the sunroof cover (the panel that slides under the sunroof to keep the sun ou...

Either I really suck at these kind of things, or this project really sucked for me, or maybe a combination of the two. But this really sucked. And I'm still not done. Broken pieces, bloody knuckles, a trip to the junk yard, and a frozen nose... After getting the headliner down (only broke two clips)...

It was due to low fluid level after I did a fluid replacement. Which fluid? I don't think windshield washer fluid would cause problems, lol. My situation was more than the light flickering, I could feel the car entering into Power mode, too. It has to be either the TPS needing adjustment, or the TP...

Ok, after much searching, I was able to find the black connectors and I got one error code: 42 - Idle Switch Makes sense, MagicMike you nailed it. So I'm assuming if I do the TPS adjustment, I should be golden, right? Hopefully, I'll be able to understand the lingo... I'll let you know what happens....

I understand. I will check the ECU codes once the rain holds up or I can get into a garage. Just don't want to have to crawl on the wet pavement if I don't have to. I took it on a slightly longer freeway drive today in the pouring rain without any problems, but it is not nearly as long as the drive ...

I wonder if there is a speed sensor behind the speedometer, I thought I read that someplace.

Is there an IAC on a 4eat?

Thanks!

Ok, I've been able to retrieve the stored codes in the TCU. I haven't attempted the ECU, yet. The TCU is throwing three codes: 24 - Duty Solenoid C (figured that one) 32 - Vehicle Speed Sensor 1 33 - Vehicle Speed Sensor 2 So, I know why I got the Duty Solenoid C code, now I'm going to see if I can ...

The AWD switch you put in could very well be giving you your problems. If I start the car with the switch off (locked 4wd mode, power cut to the Duty-C Solenoid), this will throw a code, the power light flashes around 16 times (I haven't counted). Which means the obd has determined the Duty-C to no...

Okay, maybe I'm reading the ticks wrong. It appears to be hovering around 500rpm, maybe... There seems to be a tick just off zero, is that supposed to be 500? Then the smaller tick between that and 1k is 750?

Thanks!

Actually, I looked at it earlier today, and when warm, it looked like it was below 500 RPM, maybe 250?!? That can't be right.

Sorry for not responding to your post(s) earlier, I didn't check the "Notify me when a reply is posted." I tried the flooring option with the car off (as it seemed to be the easiest to do at the time). It seems to correct the power light issue temporarily. I drove to my parents cabin this ...
