FS: 90 Legacy L Sedan 5spd

Well, the time has come to sell the legacy. Needs headgaskets (leaks air into the coolant) but runs and drives great and has LOTS of recent work done. All the work was done either by myself or the dealer (same dealer it was purchased from). I have a lot more details at the craigslist posting: http:/...

Re: High temps/possible overheating after water pump

Problem solved, sort of. There are combustion gases in the coolant, looks like I have a bit of a head gasket leak. The leak is putting bubbles into the system and over time causing the temps to climb. I hadn't noticed up till now because around town there wasn't enough being put in to the system to ...

Re: High temps/possible overheating after water pump

Burping it again on an incline didn't help, but I'm back home now so tomorrow its going in to the dealer to let them get the damn bubbles out. Oh well, doesn't seem like any engine damage occurred so now it's just an annoyance.

Re: High temps/possible overheating after water pump

It's a 50/50 mix so coolant shouldn't be an issue. Less trouble yesterday on the drive down to hoodriver. On the highway or really moving at all the temps are normal, when stopped for any long periods of time the temps start to come up a bit. At this point I suspect an air bubble in/around the therm...

Re: High temps/possible overheating after water pump

That seems most likely at this point. I thought I had burped the system completely but evidently not, hopefully my head gaskets survived. I was able to pick up some coolant this morning, it was a bit low when I went and checked it so we'll try it again I suppose. When you burp the system do you typi...

Re: High temps/possible overheating after water pump

I've never had a problem before, temps always stayed solidly just below horizontal on the gauge. I've ruled out the thermostat since on the highway the temps are normal, fan comes on so that seems to be a non issue. My only thought at this point is if I didn't get all the air out that air could be c...

High temps/possible overheating after water pump

Car: 90 Legacy L, 5spd, 4wd, no A/C no ABS Quick background: Water pump indicated imminent failure, changed it out along with thermostat, tensioner pulley and idler pulley (cogged one). All parts came from the dealer, went easily, filled with coolant, started right up and ran fine, no leaks. I did t...

Re: 2.5 Info needed

Okay, I think I understand.....man they did some confusing mixing of parts. I'm not too concerned about MAP/MAF based as with a swap I would probably use the 2.2 TB and figure out a way to put the 2.2 IAC on the 2.5 intake. If I can i'm going to try and used the 2.2 ecu and initially run high octane...

Sorry to hear that, never good to hear about a motorcycle crash. I'm not in a hurry on lights anyway, so take your time and heal up!

2.5 Info needed

My engine is getting a bit tired so I've been looking at engine options. I'm aiming for a bit more power if I decided to invest the time and money in this car (90 N/A) so I figure I can either do a ej22t swap or the 2.5 swap. I have a potential line on a low mileage (<75k) 2.5 so I'm leaning that di...

Re: Glacier Grip 2 vs Icebear W300

An update on the Glacier Grip's: Awesome. Ran them all winter long (short winter though). Minimal road noise increase over the toyo's, although I have a rather droning exhaust so it can be hard to tell. Handling just as good, wear has been excellent considering they have only seen about 4 days of ac...

Checked the knock sensor, cracked. Replaced with an OEM sensor (updated part number). Tomorrow I'm headed up to coeur dalene so we'll see if there is any improvement in the mileage.

I only wonder about the o2 sensor due to past experience with non oem parts (ie, walker). I know most older toyotas have issues with the bosch parts and only work with denso for the most part, but the opposite seems to be the case with subarus (makes sense with bosch being the oem I suppose). maf ha...

Gear Ratio for 5MT Starter/Ring Gear

Does anyone know what the ratio between the starter and ring gear on a 5mt? Or at least the number of teeth on the ring gear?

I'll have to take a look at the cam and crank sensors for sure. The ECT sensor is new (dealer part) as of about 5k miles ago. As far as the knock sensor goes, can it crack without throwing a code? Also assuming it is cracked, what effect does that have on the ecu, such as adjusting timing, intermitt...

No worries, I thought maybe I forgot about something for a minute :D . Quick question though, Since I have the 90 N/A I have heard that I have the "diamond" coil pack which is supposed to be stronger than others. Anyone care to elaborate on that? I've done some research, but I'm not sure I...

I don't have a sunroof.... I did think that could be a suspect but I haven't yet looked in to either of those, though they may be next on the list if this doesn't have an effect. Would coil pack or weak igniter cause poor mileage as well?

Cleaned the MAF and replaced the filter, Idle seems smoother without the misfire (but hard to tell for sure). Haven't had a chance to check highway mileage yet so we'll see later if there is any improvement.

Does sound like yakima, I assume your looking for the towers? Good news is used on ebay is much cheaper, but they don't make the old style anymore so sometimes you have to wait for some to show up. All the towers are the same, so if you have a set all you need is the clips (sst towers and Y clips). ...

We do have the ethanol so I expect lower mileage, though we've had year round down here for about as long as I've had the car. No engine codes and watching the ecu with the bcbf scan tool shows the ecu is running normally. So as far as the computer is concerned the car is running fine. Just cleaned ...
