Re: 96 Impreza 2.2 and 01 2.2 mix and match?

I'm sure it will be interference afterwards.

A friend made that combo and had very light valve to piston impact marks with the thinner phase 2 head gasket. He swapped out to a thicker phase 1 gasket and that engine has been going for years.

Re: 96 Impreza 2.2 and 01 2.2 mix and match?

The phase 2 short block will physically bolt to the phase 1 heads.

The question is head gaskets. I would personally put phase 1 head gaskets on that combo. But you'll want to ensure they don't block off any cooling ports.

Re: Big brake swap w/ new coated calipers & drilled rotors, $200

This swap requires a 16" rim. However (I'm saying don't do this, just know that it is possible), with some grinding the front calipers fit under a 15" wheel. The rears fit 15's with no grinding.

Yes, but the 02 Legacy got the same front and rear brakes for all models, Outback, GT, L, etc.

It will bolt on, but the Legacy is a heavier car. Anticipate the front or rear to be noticeably higher or lower than the other end.

Re: Post head gasket frustration

Is it possible that a rubber hose or other object is pinched in between the intake manifold and the heads? I did that once and had similar symptoms (seemed like I had a vacuum leak, and turned out I did)

Re: Will 95-99 doors fit a 93-94

If you've searched everywhere and haven't found an answer, maybe nobody has tried it?

Also, aren't 90-94 doors all the same? And only the glass changed between wagon and sedan models?

ej25d's are the initial reason Subaru is famous for blown headgaskets! Keep your ej22, sure you're down on HP, but you're talking about swapping out Subaru's most reliable engine for it's least.

Re: 6spd Swap Details Thread

Hi, I will be installing a 6 speed into my 92 soon but have some questions. I am using GD subframes and an R180 rear diff. Will my 04 STi driveshaft work with the 6 speed and R180 in the car? Someone told me I would need to extend the driveshaft by 2.5 inches. I don't understand why I would need to...

Re: Speedometer Cable

Check the service manuals. They're going to have a troubleshooting procedure, something along the lines of checking for OHM values. The BBS is dead, so you gotta make a decision on whether you want to join the facebook page, where the knowledge base is significantly less than here, but people actual...

Re: Speedometer Cable

Under the rear seat is 1 or two plates that cover the fuel pump and fuel level sensor. You'll want to spend some time digging through the service manuals to see the troubleshooting procedures.

Here's a link to all that:

Re: Speedometer Cable

Have you heard about the FL4T Tlegs Facebook page? It's pretty busy and maybe you could put a "Want to buy" ad for a cable. Turbo and NA 5 speed cables are the same, or at least interchangeable You could also check if the cable came loose from the transmission or the back of the gauge clus...

Is your car an automatic? If so, you can still get the part that threads into the transmission:

I have the same rear swaybar (a long out of production BC Whiteline bar) now with c-links as when I had droplinks. Worked without issue. I didn't notice any handling difference between the lateral link styles.

Y'all know the title of this thread right ;)

If I did it over again I'd go with a WRXLink, but as the SS isn't a "forever car" it's gonna stay.

Re: Looking for the right turbo

The VF23 is a special turbo, it was the turbo offered on the 22b, as well as the version 3 (and maybe v4?) STI. It is ball bearing and spools very quickly. I loved my old one. The VF39 is journal bearing, and spools slower than what you have. Top end is nearly identical, so unless your turbo is dyin...

Re: Enduring Solutions ECU board and why you should buy it

My ESL is still working good for almost 5 years now. It's in a different car (still an SS) and radically different engine (mix and match of parts, an ej22k with ej20g intake and electronics, ej205 coil on plugs). Like my robtunes, this one has a cold start issue occasionally. I mean, it's not really...
