Do you have engine braking with the gear lever in manual first, or does it freewheel?
Does it ever slip in 3rd or 4th at higher speeds, or have slow shifts into any forward gear?

Re: No reverse?
What happens if you put it in neutral and rev the engine? Does the car move forward or rev freely with no motion?

Re: Ej22t/Eg20g hybrid headgaskets??
VF39 and TD05 are very similar. Both will max out a set of 550s and a plastic JECS/Autecs MAF at similar boost/airflow levels.cj91legss wrote:What about a vf39 at 18psi?

Re: Ej22t/Eg20g hybrid headgaskets??
A 16G at 17psi maxes out the MAF with a RobTune.
It'd probably max out the metal MAF with a FCD at like 14psi or less.
Low CR isn't the end of the world. It'll be fine.

Re: Why is my car falling flat on its face?
There's no way that the center diff could fail and cause that symptom. I'm going all in on slipping clutch as well, especially if it isn't a turbo clutch. If you have a hydraulic clutch setup, there's a simple way to run an 06+ WRX clutch on an N/A trans however. Mike, I had a wagon once where the V...

Re: Ej22t/Eg20g hybrid headgaskets??
.051" is 1.3mm which should be what the stock 22T gasket compresses to. I've used 0.8mm gaskets and had significant piston to head contact, so I'd go for at least a 1mm or .040" compressed thickness, and even that is cutting it a little close for comfort. The rule in the domestic V8 world ...

Re: Ej22t/Eg20g hybrid headgaskets??
You have to use headgaskets that match the bore of the engine, so 2.2L. You have several thickness choices, but you'll need to use the 1.3mm gaskets to avoid the 22T pistons coming up and hitting the heads. 22T pistons are proud of the block at TDC. Yes, CR will be low. No way around it without afte...

Re: Sport Sedan and Touring Wagon Production Numbers
Subaru FAST has a VIN lookup function that tells you all the options the car has. I figured it had to be in some sort of database format, so I looked around with a hex editor. Turns out it's a proprietary binary database of some sort, but I managed to extract all the information to a fixed-width tex...

Sport Sedan and Touring Wagon Production Numbers
I was just doing a google search when I came across this information. Is this really true? I know turbo legacys are hard to find, but these numbers seem too low. Does anyone know whether or not this is an actual count? 1991 - 58 5-speeds were sold, and 149 automatics were sold. 1992 - 6 5-speeds we...

Re: Heater assembly stuck!!!
Most Subaru head gasket issues don't mix oil and coolant, and rarely have noticeable moisture in the exhaust. Literally the only sign is exactly what you're seeing, air in the cooling system with no external leaks. Is it an EJ25? Is it possible an inferior headgasket was used 50k ago, like a Fel Pro...

Re: Will WRX seats bolt directly into first gen legacy?
For future reference, 02-07 WRX seats should just bolt right in, but when they went to the new body in 08 they changed the rear seat mounting quite a bit as you found out.

Re: 5mt out 6mt in
No there is not. The 6-speed is probably not a good option for you. 6th is generally a bit higher RPMs than most 5-speeds, and the trans alone costs in the ballpark of $3,000. The gear ratios are designed for racing, not efficiency.

Mike's right, it takes some force. Is the A/C evaporator part of the box already out of the way?

Re: ISO MY91 turbo rear lsd axle stubs
Lots of times people don't know they're special and the stubs get left in the axles.
Overall, much easier to get a WRX or Outback Limited VLSD rear carrier and put it in your own 3.90 diff. Easy, cheap, and no stubs required.

Re: ISO MY91 turbo rear lsd axle stubs
94+ SVX did not use the correct stubs, I'm having trouble getting access to 92-93 parts catalogs so I can't speak for those years yet.
I do have the dealer parts lookup software, but it only goes back to 94 on the SVX.

Re: ISO MY91 turbo rear lsd axle stubs
Yeah, that's not the right part wtdash. You can tell because it's the same for left and right. The early VLSD uses two different stubs. Good news is, I used my super-secret-squirrel powers to find the proper part numbers. Bad news; mucho discontinued. At least now you know what part numbers you woul...

Re: ISO MY91 turbo rear lsd axle stubs
Early JDM WRX used those stubs as well. The only USDM car that used them was the 91 SS as far as I know for sure. The late '80s Subaru RX may have them as well for it's clutch-type LSD. They are very, very rare to find without a diff, so good luck in your search.

Re: Whistling Windows Batman!
I just roll the window down and he-man bend the metal frame in the triangle closed a bit. Works fine if the seal isn't worn out. The triangles get wallowed out because people close the doors by the window. Don't do that on frameless doors, it always causes a bad time.
