Re: 91ss. Broken Shift Forks/Clutch Fork

That sounds like a good plan. Personally I'd have made the WRX trans work. The 3.54 gearing comes from the transfer gears, not the center diff. You could swap the transfer case, center diff, and transfer gears from your legacy trans into the WRX trans and it would give you the 3.9 gearing. As far a...

Re: 91ss. Broken Shift Forks/Clutch Fork

I'm going to get another ss 5mt and split the case. It has blown 1'st gear, but If I can practice on it and things go well, I'll drop my gears into that case and be on my way.

91ss. Broken Shift Forks/Clutch Fork

The Wrx transmission didn't fit past the downpipe and turbo, which is a good thing because I would have run that trans with my stock 3.90 rear differential. I'm going to get my Legacy trans (5mt) split and hopfully the gears are ok. My trans fluid has a lot of little tiny gold sparkles in it with a ...

Re: 5mt out 6mt in

can anyone clarify the details about swapping stubs. do the 04's come with the correct axle stubs from the factory? do you have to split the trans to install the correct stubs? if so, how do you do that? thanks for all the info on this thread! my 91 needs a new tranny and I'm thinking it is worth th...

Re: need some guidance. sticky/non-shifting 5mt. all gears

well, replaced the clutch and all the parts that go along with that, replaced the clutch master and slave cylinders replaced the entire linkage with new "link" piece and a wrx setup w/bushings the only thing that I can think it is would be a bent shift fork. how much $$ have you all spent ...

Re: Biff, the 1st gen turbo.

check you clutch fluid, might help the shifting issue. resurfaced the flywheel, changed the clutch, pressure plate, ect. master/slave cylinder were also changed. also all fresh trans/dif fluid and an oil change, and now i'm waiting on a wrx linkage to replace all the 20 year old bushings. I'm reall...

Re: Biff, the 1st gen turbo.

Are those VW wheels? no vw parts here. the story on these are that they came off one of the first wrx's to be imported to the us. They came on a red wrx at some performance shop in the Northeast. They've been passed around a couple times but there are suppose to be fairly rare. I herd 8 sets were m...

Re: need some guidance. sticky/non-shifting 5mt. all gears

sounds like that may be the same type of issue I'm having. thanks so much for your story! we've got the trans out of the car. after a few hitches. I can't see anything wrong with any part of the clutch. My shifter bushings do look pretty beat up but none of them are missing. A friend and hell of a n...

need some guidance. sticky/non-shifting 5mt. all gears

1991 Legacy Turbo. 5mt. hydro clutch setup. 130k miles. never slipped or smelled clutch prior to problem. I was driving up to Bogus to go snowboarding. shifting from 2nd to 3rd under about 80% load (driving uphill, fast but not thrashing it). The move into 3rd felt sticky. did NOT hear or feel any p...
