Re: ej22t Hybrid questiions

You are completely right. I understand the EJ22T is not the end all, be all of motors. I was only interested in this because I happen to have the two cars. My forum scanning has fallen off significantly in the last few years, just how cheap are EJ255/257 short blocks? And how much is a Legacy Turbo ...

Re: ej22t Hybrid questiions

I thought of another possible way to do this. In my research, I came across a guy called Fuji on nasioc who is/has run USDM WRX EJ205 heads on a EJ22T block. I can buy a merged RS/WRX harness pre made, then use a WRX ECU and free tuning software to run everything. Hell, it might even run decent on j...

ej22t Hybrid questiions

Keeping the story short, my Legacy SS has a bad transmission thanks to a combination of a heavy-handed friend, bad shifter bushings, and a rallycross. I don't feel the car is worth the money of transmission transplant. I have a 2000 RS I would love to swap the ej22t into. I want it to be as simple a...

What transmissions fit?

So, I have a broken first gear in my 92 Legacy Turbo. I need to find a used tranny, what will fit?

Am I correct in assuming pretty much any post 91 subaru tranny with a 3.90 final drive will bolt in? Will I run into durability issues with, for example, and tranny from a 1.8l impreza? Thanks guys

Re: need some guidance. sticky/non-shifting 5mt. all gears

Oh man, that's not what I wanted to hear... BTW, I lived in Downtown Boise 4 years ago, used to drive up Bogus Basin Road all the time, usually late at night. I worked evenings and weekends, and knew no one, so that was a big part of my entertainment. It is probably my favorite road on the planet, m...

Re: need some guidance. sticky/non-shifting 5mt. all gears

I don't know if you got this fixed or not, but it sounds like a linkage or bushing problem to me. Maybe that is wishful thinking, though, because I am having the exact same issue. Mine happened during a rallycross. My bushings are toast. It was all rubbery, always looked like it was in neutral, and ...

I was NOT aware that two pins were in there. I finally figure it out, and was able to get them removed. What a pain. Thanks for all the responses!

Removing shifter linkage, help!

I am trying to remove the shifter linkage for my 92 SS. At the last rallycross, the bushings the connect the linkage to the shift fork (on the trans) completely disappeared. I got it home with creative use of zip ties, but now I am trying to replace the bushings and I can't get the spring pin out of...

Re: How to modify 05+ STI front struts to fit non-STI cars

I am running 04 STI struts with 91 rear Legacy strut mounts and 07 STI springs. My ride height is very slightly higher then stock. I believe you can drill out the holes and use the STI rear strut tops, but I haven't done it myself.

Re: Turbo resonator delete

I did it when I was changing the passenger side axle. So remove the passenger side wheel to start with, and I believe I had to remove the passenger side inner fender. You should be able to see a plastic piece that resembles a milk jug held on with a few bolts. It will be obvious how to remove it. I ...

Re: Banging noises with 91 rear strut mounts in a 92 SS

I could feel no play when moving things around by hand. The strut mounts are the one-piece design, and they are brand new. It did not even occur to me that it could between the strut mount and the shaft. That makes a lot of sense. The noise is worse on one side then the other, which I couldn't come ...

MAF may be bad, what are my options

Hey guys, I have been struggling with stumbling issue since I bought the car a year ago. I had replaced the plugs, wires, air filter, and 02 sensor. The problem is far worse during cold weather, sometimes it will hardly rev when its around below freezing, but the problem is somewhat intermittent. Af...

Re: Banging noises with 91 rear strut mounts in a 92 SS

That't what I would think too. Not sure if we are correct though. It doesn't make sense, but I have eliminated the other variables I can think of. I even unbolted the 3 bolts from strut mount to body, then used a jack to compress the suspension, and tighten the bolts back up. That way, theoretically...

Re: Banging noises with 91 rear strut mounts in a 92 SS

The rubber insulator not being there shouldn't be too big a deal. I would check to make sure the nut connecting to the strut shaft is fully tightened. So there is a rubber insulator between the mount and the body? Mine did not come with them if so. do need a washer(s) for putting 91 mounts on gc st...

Banging noises with 91 rear strut mounts in a 92 SS

I just got my STi springs installed using V5 STi (GC) struts and 91 rear strut mounts. I am getting a banging noise from the rear, like the strut mounts are banging into the body where they meet. I pulled the struts out again and made sure the spring wasn't loose, I modified the factory spring isola...

Re: Question regarding ride height of STI springs

A little update. I installed the 07 STi springs, using V5 STi (GC) struts, and 91 rear strut mounts. The ride height is the very similar to what it was with 2000 2.5RS springs with these struts. On the RS springs, center of the hub to fender measured 13.5 inches in front and 13.75 inches in the rear...

Re: Best place to buy struts?

The strut mounts are a wear item to some extent. The bearing inside them can wear out, and the rubber can fall apart. They will clunk when you turn or sometimes when you hit bumps if they are bad. They normally last much longer then struts, and a bad one won't affect you the way a blown strut will. ...

How used is used? Struts are definitely a wear item. For not a lot more, you could get brand new KYB GR2's. I would recommend that.

Re: whats an ideal set up? auto x legacy

I could have explained that better. Yes, Kimo, you are right. But why does a bigger front sway bar increase front grip? By limiting body roll and limiting camber loss, allowing the outside front tire to stay more square with the ground. It all comes down to the geometry of Macpherson strut suspensio...

Re: Snapped a strut bolt

Your right, the geometry is not same, and it is really not a great argument. But my point is the part is not under stress, the other two will not snap off. Those bolts are only necessary at all when you run out of droop travel, and 2 is more then enough to get the job done. Look at the size of those...

Kind of resurrecting an old post, but what the hell, I am on a posting rampage tonight. Sounds like you are upgrading the right direction. At one point, I had my 00 2.5RS handling really well. It has numerous regional STS wins under its belt (no championships, though). In its heyday, it had AGX's wi...

Re: Snapped a strut bolt

I disagree, I believe it is perfectly fine to drive around on only 2. The fact that they are only supposed to be tightened to 12ft/lbs proves this in a way. Many cars only have two (including the 08+ WRXs in the rear), and some only have one (old MkI and MkII VWs), although that is not really releve...

Re: Best place to buy struts?

If you want to buy them pre-assembled, really your only option is the used market. It is not too much more work to take care of that on your own though. You can rent spring compressors from just about any major parts store, and only pay a refundable deposit. Check shox.com, tirerack.com, and... I ca...

Re: 05 WRX Struts into a 94 SS??

I apologize for being contradictory, but I believe the struts themselves will fit fine. It's the rear strut mounts and rear springs that cause problems. The struts you are looking at should fit without issue. IF you end up buying struts from a sedan, you will have trouble getting the correct amount ...
