Best wiper blade I have ever seen by far is the PIAA silicone super sporza. The purge control solenoids do have a tendency to go bad. If you have over 100k miles and it's never been replaced, then it's probably time for a new one. I ran a HKS VTA, and it was fine at idle. It did run rich whenever it opened, just becasue it acts like a metered air leak. Any time you change to a different MAF, there has to be some sort of rescaling done, airflow=voltage. I believe this is usually done with a piggyback of some sort or Stand Alone EM.
