Re: How bad is the turbo lag for autox/rallyx?

Thanks for the info, that helps a lot. I just missed buying a 5MT STi transmission, and am still trying to figure out what to do. Are you running the DCCD as well?

What's your opinion of the drop in 12kfg and 20kfg center diff options for the 5MT transmissions?

Re: How bad is the turbo lag for autox/rallyx?

Thanks, great video! The resolution isn't enough for me to tell what the boost gauge is supposed to be showing. Plus, I've never owned a turbo, so it wouldn't have made a difference.

How do you you have your car setup, i.e. transmission, engine config, etc?

Thanks! Its an automatic, but I've got the parts to do a manual 5MT swap. The price is right, though.

How bad is the turbo lag for autox/rallyx?

I'm thinking of getting a turbo Legacy for rallyx, predicated on bumping the torque/HP with some mods. (My current rallyx car has a 2.5L engine in it.) On paper the mod'd 2.2T should have better torque and HP than the 2.5L, but at what cost in lag? Are people just putting on giant turbos and waiting...

Sorry, my '93 Sedan doesn't have a passenger air bag, but have you tried the repair manual? Its got a huge amount of info.

Re: GD WRX ACT ProLite Flywheel and Exedy OEM Clutch kit

I've got the ACT StreetLite Flywheel 13.4 pounds and can't really tell much of a difference in terms of street driving, even stop and go. (The 9.6 pound version didn't seem like a good cost/benefit tradeoff.) I do notice that under hard acceleration the RPMs fall very quickly if I don't shift really...

Re: NA Tuning Options in 2015?

This car has a DOHC engine running off of a '93 2.2L ECU. Are cams still a piece of cake? If you think the PP6 has a chance of working I'm interesting in giving it a shot. Trying this sort of thing without real dyno testing is problematic, and as an engineer I hate guessing, but hey, this is a gutte...

WTB: Turbo Wagon

I would love to buy something exactly like this: http://bbs.legacycentral.org/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=54599 After 3 years rallyx'ing an NA I really want to play around with the EJ22T engine. Plus I love wagons and it would be a hoot to take off-road. If anyone knows of a turbo wagon FS please let m...

Thanks, I didn't think here was much benefit, but as an electrical engineer it's fun to tinker.

I had forgotten about EL headers; that sounds like a pm excellent next project, and a heck of a lot easier than taking out the cams :-)

NA Tuning Options in 2015?

I've been scanning the forums but can't seem to find a stick thread on what's available in 2015. RobTune seems to be the only tuning option, but that only works for turbo engines. Are there any NA tuning options available in 2015? The PP6 seemed to be spec'd for NA, but of course that's been discont...

Re: Softer rear springs for rallyx?

Softer rear springs do make the rear grip more, but under steer vs oversteer is a matter of relationship between front and rear grip. With rallyx you want a loose rear end, and the car is already really tail happy.

Re: Re-built 5MT vs. 6MT wap

Have you looked into the moores performance blast plates?? Might be an option since a lot of the 5 speeds seem the break because of the torque deflection of the actual cases. I'm on my third turbo legacy transmission. Never heard of 'em, but thanks, I'll check those out. Unfortunately the darn thin...

Re: Re-built 5MT vs. 6MT wap

Just ran the numbers on a 5MT DCCD. Its 2mph faster in first, just 1mph slower than the RA I wanted, and the rest of the gears are just as close together. Gear, Stock 5MT, PPG 5MT, RA 5MT, 6MT, 4.44 5MT w/DCCD 1st: 18, 21, 21, 19, 20 2nd: 33, 35, 32, 29, 29 3rd: 48, 50, 42, 39, 39 4th: 67, 68, 57, 5...

Re: Re-built 5MT vs. 6MT wap

Everything's a tradeoff. The 6MT's 2nd is the shortest, but also has a 1st that practically unusably short. That's a problem on an engine with only 160HP since 1st can lay down much more torque in 1st than 2nd to power out of corners. Going with a 6MT means giving up 1st for the most part. 2nd may w...

Have you used those gravel coilovers before? I'm curious as to how they're handling differs from my current setup, 2004 STi struts/springs.

What steering wheel and adapter are you using?

"Swapped out a 2nd gen 45 degree angle airbox and fabbed up a free flowing short ram style intake that goes to stock air box with a stock air filter. "

If you're using the stock filter box why bother to create a custom tube? Why not just use stock?

Those are long gone :-) The STi strut/spring swap had already been done when I bought the car. It sounds like stock Legacy springs would fit on an STi strut? The '93 springs or something from '04 to match the strut?

Softer rear springs for rallyx?

My '93 Legacy has '04 STi struts and springs, but I've lightened the car so much the ride is wayyyy too stiff, especially in the back where almost everything's been removed. Rally cross is much slower and bumpier than stage rally, and the back end is just being lifted into the air on many bumps. So....

Hell, that was obvious, even for me :-( No, I didn't check, but will this weekend.

After I posted I checked the oxygen sensor and that appeared to be way off of spec, putting out .01 volts instead of .1.2 volts.

Thanks!

Re: Re-built 5MT vs. 6MT wap

Because of the ideal gear ratios for rallyx I'm going with the phase 2 transmission with the RA gears. Since the center diff can be swapped out later I'll leave that later. Ideally one would want to test the transmission gear swap first without throwing the center diff into the mix.
