lockup is dependant on not only the solenoide, but the lockup clutch in the torque converter. this is a common problem on the GM TMH125C unit (Cavalier, Corsica, Beretta, etc). 50% of the time it's solenoid, 50% it's converter. unless this dude's one hell of a mechanic, I'd recommend he takes it somewhere else. sounds like either the 3rd gear or direct clutches are wiped out. There could also be a 3rd gear solenoid in that unit too, but I'm not sure. The only other thing could be a planetary gear wiping out, but if that ha...
