Re: Codes 23, 49. EJ22T w/metal MAF. Choppy idle and misfire

how did find out the injectors are staying open? mine may be doing the same thing There is constantly +12v between the pins on the harness at the injectors. There is supposed to be a 12v constant at one of the pins going to the injectors. The ECU "sinks" current rather than supplying it. ...

Re: Codes 23, 49. EJ22T w/metal MAF. Choppy idle and misfire

Just an update: I found the problem is that the injectors are stuck open constantly. I'm not sure why yet, but I'm guessing it's something wiring related (maybe bad ground or chaffed wire somewhere). I'll have more time to investigate on the 1st or next weekend. Does anyone have any injector wiring ...

^ Josh, you are correct. That is the turbo inlet hose. I wasn't thinking about oil pre/post turbo, so yeah, that oil isn't from the turbo, it's from PCV as far as I can tell. There isn't much oil between the turbo and TB. The PCV system should be plumbed correctly, I followed this picture: http://i1...

Re: Codes 23, 49. EJ22T w/metal MAF. Choppy idle and misfire

When your car shutters, is it when trying to accelerate, and does it start running super rich? It stutters almost all the time: idle, cruise. WOT there is no power. I don't have a WB, so idk how rich it is, but judging by the nose test and looking at how gray/black the exhaust is, it runs super ric...

Looks like you May need a new turbo real soon The sad thing is, I just purchased this from a board member that said it was hardly used and it great shape. When I received it, I checked for shaft play, and it had none whatsoever. I've been ripped off a few times though. Is there any way to just repl...

I'm not sure if it won't start because the MAF is unplugged, or if there is a deeper issue now. hello subie, compare your symptoms to mine http://bbs.legacycentral.org/view...

I will check the tbelt also. Coolant temp sensor was just replaced to rule all of these issues out.

The ECU isn't wired as a Cali ECU (I didn't ground that pin).

Re: Codes 23, 49. EJ22T w/metal MAF. Choppy idle and misfire

Well what I'd suggest is taking a step back and looking at what specifically was done between when the car was working and now....which sounds like an ej22t swap. What you could try is swapping the positive leads of the crank & cam sensors back to their original spots (assuming you just swapped...

I don't know of any others...but you stated you had 2 turbo ECUs, correct? Do they both give you the same codes? Td Oh sorry, I misread your last post. Yes, I've tried the other ECU. When I plug in the other ECU, I get no check engine light at all, which didn't seem correct to me (with the black co...

Re: Codes 23, 49. EJ22T w/metal MAF. Choppy idle and misfire

Question about clearing codes: I'm doing the battery dance method for clearing the codes and resetting the ECU. After reconnecting the battery after an hour, the same codes are there right off the bat, the first time I turn the car to ON. I would expect the check engine light to flash steady after t...

Re: Codes 23, 49. EJ22T w/metal MAF. Choppy idle and misfire

1. Stock EJ22T (pink) injectors, yes. 2. When I unplugged the MAF while it was running, the car died. Edit: the car barely runs, so I'm not sure if unplugging the MAF killed it, or if it just died on its own. I can't get it to hold idle very well anymore. I've tried clearing codes several times, but...

Re: Codes 23, 49. EJ22T w/metal MAF. Choppy idle and misfire

No problem, didn't take it as you being a jerk :) I just made a signature with all my info in it. It was originally a 1986 GL, swapped to a EJ22e (with EJ22e ECU and EJ22e wiring). I then swapped in an EJ22t, and swapped around the wiring for the cam/crank sensor, and added the boost sensor, pressur...

Re: Codes 23, 49. EJ22T w/metal MAF. Choppy idle and misfire

Yes, I did resistance testing from MAF connector to ECU connector, no problems found. To be honest, I can't remember if these codes were stored before the rebuild, they could very well have already been there. You may be right, I may be chasing these codes, when they really aren't the problem. -Jason

Re: Codes 23, 49. EJ22T w/metal MAF. Choppy idle and misfire

I just did all the voltage tests from the FSM, and they passed. wtdash, I'll run down and see if the blue wire is grounded. Looking at the wire diagram, it should be +5V, correct? I guess a little back story on the car would help now. In Sept, I put the car in the shop to do a full rebuild, and put ...

Re: Codes 23, 49. EJ22T w/metal MAF. Choppy idle and misfire

I've done resistance tests, and all came back within spec. I'm going to measure voltages now and see what happens. I also have two turbo ECUs with different part numbers: 22611-AA692 and 22611-AA694. Does it matter which I use? The parts catalog says the first one is 2wd/4wd, and the second is only ...

Ok, thanks Josh. I will do the wiring/resistance tests today.

Is MAF cleaner safe to use on these MAFs? I know on some MAF sensors, it can do more harm than good.

Also, could someone list the functions of the red, white, black/red, black and blue wires on the MAF (like +5v, gnd, maybe iat?).

Thanks,

Codes 23, 49. EJ22T w/metal MAF. Choppy idle and misfires.

I have an EJ22t with the metal MAF (Hitachi 22680 AA170). I'm getting codes 23 and 49 when I pull codes. I have swapped between two MAFs, cleared codes, and get the same results. Symptoms are choppy idle, misfires under load and cruise, and no power. Stalls almost constantly when throttle is applied...

Re: Will a WRX flywheel work with a 90-96 Legacy PP/Clutch d

It is for the pull style (it's out of a 2002 WRX). I had originally purchased all turbo clutch parts, because I was told the transmission I purchased was a turbo trans. When I received the trans, it was quite a different story.

It sounds like I'll have to find an NA Legacy flywheel then. Thanks!

Will a WRX flywheel work with a 90-96 Legacy PP/Clutch disk?

I'm doing a 5MT swap, and I have a WRX flywheel that was just machined. I'd like to use it with my clutch kit I just purchased for my Legacy. It's a non-turbo trans if that matters.

Will the WRX flywheel work with the NA Legacy clutch kit?

Thanks,

Jason, That all sounds good. I'd install in increments for the stuff you can. Why? So you can troubleshoot upgrades independently as you go. You can do as others have done (not naming names) - throwing it all under the hood @ once, and the car may not even start. Not cool and it makes finding the c...

Re: Is EMS needed for 440cc injectors and

Hi, Just to clarify...the JECS/AUTECS MAF shouldn't be used even w/the wiring mod noted above (no offense Mike!). It'll make the car run lean. Running the 440's won't properly compensate for this - I tried it when I had my Legacy and 440's - and AFR's were scary lean. Since you don't have a mod lis...
