Re: Dwell/coilpack issues.any1 have experience with AEMcoilp
Useful info on ignition and COP systems: http://opensiuc.lib.siu.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1025&context=auto_pres On the other hand, Toyota seems to be a popular COP conversion for mitsubishis and mazdas.. And a cheap solution indeed! The Toyota COP looks a bit long, dont they? http://miat...

I bought a cheap ebay headgasket kit once, that will not happen again..
Personally, i go with OEM now, for peace of mind =)

Re: Dwell/coilpack issues.any1 have experience with AEMcoilp
It seems like "usliberty" is satisfied with this solution : http://www.linkecu.com/forums/LinkG1Forum/724331847 A coil on plug gets a more clean look, in the cramped engine compartment, but i guess you can't always win. ;) 240$ is not a lot of money, i'll check if i can find something simi...

Re: Dwell/coilpack issues.any1 have experience with AEMcoilp
Any progress in this matter? I am sort of in the same boat.. I have the 1st gen. Possumlink plugin ecu. I now use the center-mounted diamond coil pack from a V3 WRX, and the original 4ch igniter. Wasted spark seems a waste to me, and i find the use of 2002 WRX cop appealing. (ditch the standalone or...

Press gently on the brakepedal when you have the noise.
It should go away if its only a loose pad..

Re: E85 Experiment's
No, its from different places.
Maybe just a bad batch of fuel can cause this, but its a fair amount of residue.
I can cut my fuel filter up later, and check. If its fuel-related, it should be black.

Re: E85 Experiment's
I cleaned it off with engine degreaser, no need of scrubbing, just degreaser and compressed air. Its a bit sticky, like permatex or a dried in splash of coca-cola. I think something is getting solved up by the E-85, injected with the fuel and evaporated on the hot surface in the cylinder heads. Have...

Re: Cold start knocking/ticking
Have you always had the same brand and viscosity (spelling) on the oil?
5w-30 sounds a bit thin (for my taste) but i'm no oil expert.
I have a knocking on cold start, from my pistons, more noticeable under engine load. But you should have had that sound since day one from the engine build i think.

Re: E85 Experiment's
They say that they add a red colour to the E85, to be able to see it when it's on fire. I have not yet confirmed this. Supposedly, you should run your car on regular 95octane fuel once in a while, to remove residues from the E85. I think my residue might come from my silicone boost hoses, but not co...

Re: E85 Experiment's
I found another guy here in Sweden with the same issue..
I think it might be oil from the turbo, but why it would get so dry, i have no idea..
"Edit" : I found that the fuel-companies in Sweden adds a colouring-agent to the E85, and this may cause the fuel to leave a residue..

Re: Where to get inexpensive gasket sets?
I have bought cheap gasket-kits from Ebay.
Headgasket failure and leaking valvecovers was the result.
I like cheap stuff, but i have come to realize: buy cheap, buy twice..

Hope my pictures work. The residue reminds me of that brown permatex. If its oil, it still cannot be wiped away without any solvent..
Tried another picturelink.

Re: E85 Experiment's
I have been running E85 for six months now. I blew a headgasket now (cheap ebay headgasket) I now found some black tar-like residue in the inlets on the heads. Is this maybe from the o-rings in the injectors. (old o-rings from maybe -96) I will post pictures when i get a chance. Also, i found light ...

Re: Need of balancing?
Then my initial thoughts was correct. It's a shedload of extra work to split the block vs. change headgaskets.
Thanks guys, hope i remember to take som photos and post them.
Cant wait for the parts to turn up from the UK.

Need of balancing?
Long story short: I have been driviing with manley h-rods and cp pistons for 6months now. I put the engine together all by myself, without balancing the parts.. Since its a boxer and the items are of high quality, i thougt i didn't need a balance. Since my headgasket is blown (cheap ebay mls headgas...

Turbo_Carl: Fixed your turbo yet?
Just as i was ready to mount the beefier intercooler, i think i blew a headgasket..
Could be from knocking or cheap noname mls headgaskets..
Anyway, i can now recheck my lifters, i dont like that knocking sound from them.

Re: Direct fit AWIC kits on the way.
I have read that the original Air-water-intercooler on 1st gen Legacy has an air flowrate of 230cfm. My setup is: Forged conrods and pistons, E-manage ultimate, Td0516G big, 550CC injectors. Running about 15Psi of boost, and i get a feeling that my intercooler is a bottleneck in my system. (getting ...

Re: Direct fit AWIC kits on the way.
If you push the awic in this setup ut to or beyond 300kw on the crank, will it still do its job?
I'm thinking of putting together a kit for my own car (came with waic as standard) since i live in the same town as the famous Laminova factory.
One step away, not sure yet..
