Re: Official CF/FG Hood Discussion/Status Thread
As a general policy, I don't like group buys. I've seen them go sideways too many times and I don't want to manage deposits and things of that nature. My standard shop policy for custom work is 50% down at the start. However, I generally don't like taking money until the final product is ready to sh...

Re: Official CF/FG Hood Discussion/Status Thread
Thank you for the interest. Unfortunately I do not have any plans at present to make a pre-facelift hood. The response to the post facelift hood has been positive in terms of forum support. However, to be blunt, to date the mold has produced a grand total of 4 hoods including my own personal one. Th...

Re: Northwind - Carbon Sunroof Deletes - new chassis's suppo
Josh, Unfortunately when I was there with the customer finishing the install I had to leave before we got to the final bond and RTV step so the only pictures I personally have are under green tarps and out of the rain :). However, he has promised some better pictures once he can get it washed and ou...

Northwind - Carbon Sunroof Deletes - new chassis's supported
Gentleman, I know we're a predominately BC/BF crowd, however, I know several of us have a bit of a Subaru stable. Therefore, I wanted to take a quick moment and share some exciting Subaru news! As of last week we our new 4th gen wagon (BP) sunroof delete is online. This new delete gets rid of both t...

Re: Northwind Composites - Picture Requests
Gentleman, It's another year and I'm about to restructure/update the website a little. To that end, I'd love to have a few pictures of your installations to be able to share. If you have anything you'd be willing to send my way, please do :). As always, if there is anything I can do for, just let me...

Re: Northwind Composites - Status Update
LegacyT - Howdy, and yes these are still available. I do not keep inventory of these at this point but they are still for sale and are made on an as-ordered basis. Regarding the possibility of making them cheaper, sure. I can work up a quote for you. Labor doesn't change but I am happy to adjust the...

Re: Northwind Composites - Picture Requests
Howdy gentleman! I thought I'd put up a friendly bump and let everyone know the request for pictures is an outstanding request. I'd still love to be able to show off some more Legacy's on the website :). If you have pictures you want to share, my email is lee@northwindcomp.com . Please let me know i...

Re: Official CF/FG Hood Discussion/Status Thread
I do not have any deals with Aerocatch. And yes, they are expensive but they are also high quality. Ultimately, these hoods are designed and built for track use and mounting is left to the end user. I have posted what I use and recommend but I'm sure you could mount them with standard hood pins or o...

Re: Official CF/FG Hood Discussion/Status Thread
The update is very simple - I've been ready to take orders since Feb. What is posted here is what is available. There is also a page on my website for the hood that is a little more condensed than this thread - http://northwindcomposites.com/products/automotive/subaru-bcbf-legacy-hood/ I have not ta...

Northwind Composites - Picture Requests
Gentleman, I'm working on updating the media gallery on my website and thought I'd see if anyone had any pictures of their sunroof installs they would like to share. I would be happy to also take any short comments and good picture of your car in action. This is the 'your part is awesome and here it...

**Update** Gentlman, the time for the price discount is rapidly closing. On 4/1/15 the price will increase to $250.00. I will happily honor the $160.00 for all orders placed prior to 4/1/15. I currently have a 1 week leadtime as well. Please let me know if there are any questions. Thank you, Lee

Re: Official CF/FG Hood Discussion/Status Thread
Howdy, Sorry for the late reply, I've been swamped finishing up my small curing oven these last couple of weeks. I do not have any pictures for the other style scoop mount. What I mean though is that I will make an insert that will go into the mold before any fabric. The insert will create a flat mo...

Re: Official CF/FG Hood Discussion/Status Thread
Gentleman, I got the 'test' hood made the other week. The 2x2 twill black fiberglass has been discontinued from the manufacturer for a while and now I know why - it has the work-ability and drape properties of cardboard. Insert long line of expletives here, and then repeat. It was not fun fabric to ...

Re: Official CF/FG Hood Discussion/Status Thread
Thank you again for all the input guys, keep it coming! So far, this is my current option/proposal list - 1. I will work out a cost for the threaded inserts, installed. I am happy to leave this to you if you want to save money and do it on your own (it's really not hard if you're careful). 2. I will...

Re: Official CF/FG Hood Discussion/Status Thread
^^^ Thank you for the input, I do appreciate it. I have updated this thread with some additional pictures of the hinges. If there is enough interest I can look into the additional cost of having the hinge pieces fabricated and included. However, at this point I would prefer to leave the hinge fab wo...

Gentleman, a fellow kind BBS member turned me onto FedEx as a possible cheaper way to ship large items (thank you ). I will be looking into setting up an account with them. Therefore, feel free to check them out too for shipping quotes.

Re: Official CF/FG Hood Discussion/Status Thread
Mike - I have been using USPS and UPS online shipping estimators for getting a rough idea on shipping. For this, I would say it's going to into a 5ft x 5ft x 1ft box and weigh around 20lbs all said and done. The box might end up being closer to 5.5ft x 5ft x 1ft as I'll want to make sure it's got pl...

Re: Official CF/FG Hood Discussion/Status Thread
James, Excellent questions. I can price out installing the threaded inserts and then it would leave you with fabricating a metal hinge piece to tie from the hood to the factory hinge. A picture here is going to be worth a thousand words. I will get pictures of my setup posted tomorrow. The current m...

Official CF/FG Hood Discussion/Status Thread
Gentleman, I am officially starting a thread for the post face lift composite hoods. This is not the official “For Sale” thread but is rather a place for discussion of them, options that people really want – and are willing to pay for – and general status. This is the ‘how does, can I, will you,….’ ...

Truthfully, it has been a little while since I had the assembly apart but I think both those options could work. My honest recommendation, buy one and let us know what works best :). *Official Announcement* The last of what I had already made has now been purchased. Therefore, if you would like one,...

Re: Northwind Composites - Official 90'-94' Sunroof Buy Thre
Hwody, Option 1 replaces the glass, and by that I mean it does just that. The thickness of the carbon insert is approximately 0.160in thick, prior to clear coat, and therefore pretty closely matches the thickness of the glass. The physical size also matches the glass - or pretty close too, I'll incl...

Weight Update - I got Dan's part back from the painter today, see picture below. It came in weighing 38.6 ounces. His is trimmed for Option 1. For those wanting their's clear coated, I need to work with the painter on some test pieces. This one came out great but there are three small pinholes/depre...
