Re: RTV or No RTV for Valve Cover Gasket Replacement - SOHC

Yeah I decided to use the Fel-Pro and not use any RTV since it was not called for in the FSM. Here are my pics. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v696/brisky86/IMG_20161104_141125.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v696/brisky86/IMG_20161104_141121.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v696/brisk...

Re: RTV or No RTV for Valve Cover Gasket Replacement - SOHC

Well the Fel-Pro kit on Amazon has pretty good reviews (only exceptions are when the wrong part was purchased). https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B000C2EFV6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Since the cost is $26 for Fel-Pro and $80+ fo OEM I am going to go with that route. If I have...

Re: RTV or No RTV for Valve Cover Gasket Replacement - SOHC

I do a lot of SOHC EJ25 reseals, and I've never used RTV and can confirm it is NOT called for in the FSMs. I don't seal the spark plug tube gaskets either. It's my experience that if the surfaces are nice and clean and you perform regular oil changes, the seals last a good 100k at least. I took apa...

Re: RTV or No RTV for Valve Cover Gasket Replacement - SOHC

I have seen rtv called for in factory service manuals, so subaru did start recommending it at some point. I don't think my 1991 Legacy FSM calls for it. SL-I forum has a huge service manual collection that I helped build, back in the day. You have to be a member to download them, but it's worth it ...

Iridium will have better performance than Platinum and last longer (100k miles or so).

RTV or No RTV for Valve Cover Gasket Replacement - SOHC 2.5

Hey Guys, I am getting ready to do a valve cover gasket replacement on my 2001 Subaru Legacy GT, 2.5 EJ252 SOHC engine using the Felpro gasket kit to fix an oil leak. So I found this awesome right up here on how to replace the valve cover gasket: http://www.rs25.com/forums/f105/t51254-diy-valve-cove...

Re: Suspension Swap from 1993 Legacy L to 2001 Legacy GT?

The fronts bolt in, but i'm not sure how good an idea mixing and matching struts and springs is. Your agx's and springs are designed for a lighter car, so I can imagine having different rears could cause the car to rock back and forth worse under braking or acceleration. And/or be super bouncy on t...

Re: Suspension Swap from 1993 Legacy L to 2001 Legacy GT?

The rears wont work as the 3rd gen and newer subarus have a new multilink suspension. Your springs won't work in the rear either. Okay that is good to know that the rear would not work out anyway (and yeah that right side is likely bent anyways). So will the fronts swap out then? I probably don't e...

Re: 1993 NA EJ22 Oil Leak - Passenger Side

As long as the RTV hasn't gotten inside the engine and or blocked oil passageways you should be ok. Alrighty. So how soon would I know if it got into the engine? I mean is there anyway I would know for sure if I did not remove the plate again and look in there? If it got inside is there a suggested...

Re: 1993 NA EJ22 Oil Leak - Passenger Side

I haven't worked back there in a while but I think part of the CAM is rotating there. Don't want RTV in the engine oil galleries but it is probably okay. The correct part number is 806946030. Re: 1993 NA EJ22 Oil Leak - Passenger Side

Well I thought I would provide you guys with a tentative update. First the Subaru parts department around here was not very helpful and sold me a plug and not an O-ring, saying that there was no O-ring there. This is the part I was sold. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v696/brisky86/IMG_20160118_1...

Re: 1993 NA EJ22 Oil Leak - Passenger Side

Sweet. I just did a rebuild kit on my powersteering pump, so I don't think that is the culprit this time. I will check the orange area and the red and yellow spots for oil leaks. Is fixing the rear cam seal very difficult? Do we have a "how to" or "helpinator" on how to do that?...

These aren't the best of pictures, but you can kind of see the cap in the far bit of this picture. http://main.experiencetherave.com/subaru/images/ej22/DCP_8013.JPG Here is the cap on the turbo model that has oil & coolant lines. The non-turbo model does not have those lines and just a cap. htt...

its the rear cam housing o ring on the back of the cylinder head. the drivers side has one on the front of the head as well. Would you be able to point me to a picture of where it is located on the engine? I can usually find things pretty easily, but typically only with a visual reference.

Re: 1993 NA EJ22 Oil Leak - Passenger Side

Possibly a cam seal or the ventilation hose going to the valve cover. Cam seal being behind the timing belt? I am set to do the timing belt the coming summer and will repalce all the crank seals there at that time. Where is the ventilation hose? I also updated the first post with pictures. Thanks! :D

1993 NA EJ22 Oil Leak - Passenger Side

Hey Guys, I have a 1993 Subaru Legacy L with 252K miles. I am having a very slow oil leak on the passenger side leaking on the metal piece above the control arm (?). I already replaced the PCV valve, valve cover gasket, and gromets about a year ago with OEM parts installed by a mechanic. The steerin...

Re: HVAC controls not working all the time

Brisky I would have to say you problem sounds like it's a bad solder connection. When I had to solder my unit the lights would come on for the setting but the fan wouldn't come on unless I hit it hard enough for the bad connection to touch. If a resistor is bad the fan wont work on 1 or more settin...

Hello, I thinking I am having a similar problem on my car. Fuses look ok, and the lights alway...

Re: HOWTO: remove instrument cluster

Regarding your questions, are you talking about the two screws that hold the front part of the ashtray and radio bezel in place? They are just standard screws. Are you installing the radio bezel before installing the ashtray bracket? I've done that before and they wouldn't go in all the way. Oh yes...
