Re: Few questions about manual transmissions
Daveh: Thats what I'm trying to explain. The arguement is that one party feels that a manual gearbox will reach operating temp at idle, while the other party believes the manual gearbox needs normal operation to get to normal operating temp to thin out the gear oil.

Re: Few questions about manual transmissions
I feel that a transmission with load on the gears provides more force and friction on the gears, thus generating increased gear temps while the transmission is being operated under load. If the gears operate at higher temps under load, then the gears, themselves would raise the temperature of the fl...

I need a real gear head to chime in with some rhyme and reasoning on the second arguement theories. LOL

Re: Few questions about manual transmissions
Fundamentaly: I agree with you that as the transmission gets warmer, it will shift easier. Also, as you allow the car to idle in neutral, the countershaft is in the bottom of the transmission slinging oil all over 1st. gear set, 2nd. gear set, 3rd. gear set, 4th gear set, 5th gear set. The debate is...

Few questions about manual transmissions
I'm having a little debate at work. Maybe some of you out there can shed some light on the subjects. I don't want anyone taking my side, so I'm going to keep it unbiased. Tech A says: ALL gears inside of a manual gear box are turning while the engine is idling, manual gearbox is in neutral. Tech B s...

Re: Left front brake caliper is hanging up / dragging the pa
I want to say Wagner Thermoquiet or NAPA Adaptive ONE. I've had baad experiences with both and I'm trying to move away from these pads, but it's hard to move away from them because these are the premium grade brake pads that my local parts stores stock. I installed the HAWK HPS pads on my girlfriend...

Re: Left front brake caliper is hanging up / dragging the pa
Had my car up in the air today. Threw it in gear to get the wheels spinning. And now the left rear wheel is binding. I suspect that this "sticking wheel" thing might just be the brake pads binding up on the caliper bracket. There is no denying that my front brake pads have worn funny / une...

I hear ya Jamal. But I think all of us put lipstick on our.... .....Are there any rust free '90 - '94 Legacies left ?? ...If not, then we all put lipstick on pigs, IMO. The reason I chose BC Racing coilovers, is because I recently met a kid who is running his little BMW performance shop about 5 mile...

Re: Manual transmission overhaul- '94 Legacy GT
RIGHT ON JAMAL ! ! ! There is lots of speculation after I mentioned this cocktail. I have read that the 5MT is bulletproof and I've read that the 5MT is weak, especially 2nd. gear. Different people speculate different things. This was just my input from what I saw on Grimm Speed's site. I was just o...

Re: Swift Springs - Anyone using them on their BF, BJ
Hey Josh, somehow I missed your reply here. I have browsed on Whiteline's online site. I didn't actually download any catalog of theirs. I bought the BC coilovers for my BMW. I'm going to give them a whirl. While talking with the salesman (and he uses BC Racing coilovers on his BMW) and trying to de...

Re: Manual transmission overhaul- '94 Legacy GT
Transmission Cocktail ?? as seen on http://www.Grimmspeed.com (1) bottle of Penzoil Synchrol Mesh, (1) bottle of Redline Lightweight Shockproof gear oil, (2) bottles of Castrol Hypoy-C 80w90. NOTED: I could not find the Castrol Hypoy-C for the life of me. I saw listings for it, but these places didn...

Re: Engine codes 22,23,32,45, and 49..... WTF
I would never look to the coolant temp sensor to fix codes that don't have to do with the coolant temp sensor. Most of the time when a coolant temp sensor is the issue, there is no codes. But when a car does have a bad coolant temp sensor, usually the engine has a hard time starting when the engine ...

Re: Brake pedal fades 1" while stopped and brakes are applie
Yes my car is N/A. I'm going to buy a new idle valve. I can't justify buying a used idle valve, because these types of parts have internally moving parts that can bind due to carbon, seals that can leak internally, etc... I did buy a used ABS control module. The ABS control module was $1,100.00 new....

Re: ABS Fault Code 16
Ok, I finally had a free moment to troubleshoot this fault code with the flow chart provided by Josh. (Thank you very much Josh). So, I ohmed the original G-sensor that I removed from my vehicle. It measured 565 ohms at the sensor terminal pins. I then measured the resistance of the replacement sens...

Re: ABS Fault Code 16
Josh, you are correct. I did not mention that I performed basic continuity checks for shorts to power and shorts to ground. I think the most streamlined process for me to resolve this issue would be if I had the flow chart for this particular fault code. It seems like you have the flow chart for thi...

Re: ABS Fault Code 16
Wiring has a degree of resistance. As long as there are terminals crimped onto the wiring there has to be a numerical value for the degree of resistance. Continuity checks have already been conducted. And yes, I have checked those wires for shorts to power and shorts to ground by way of checking con...

Re: Left front brake caliper is hanging up / dragging the pa
I suspect that I am getting (DVT) also known as warped rotors, and vice versa, because I am 100% positive that I am experiencing "uneven pad contact with my front rotors, as Caroll Smith explains here, "and an untold number of discs with pad material unevenly deposited on the friction surf...

Re: ABS Fault Code 16
Josh, Same code returns 5 seconds after each time I start the engine. When I start the engine the ABS light is "off." Roll forward and the ABS light comes on at the first time I apply the brakes. Fault code 16 is the only fault triggered, and comes back every time. I have no ohmed the wire...

Re: Left front brake caliper is hanging up / dragging the pa
I'm at the stage where I've replaced every component of the entire front brake system, minus the steel brake lines. I've given the L/F steel brake line a thorough visual inspection. I'm 99.8% certain that the issue is not the brakes. Would you agree that if you installed a brake caliper bracket with...

Re: Left front brake caliper is hanging up / dragging the pa
If the mating surface on the spindle, where the caliper bracket mates with the spindle, is untrue and / or if those ears (where the caliper bracket bolts to the spindle) are bent, then the caliper will not mount square to the rotor. If the previous owner experienced the "all to common" sei...
