Re: possible electrical issue?

I had one partially broke at the firewall and a handful of burnt wires around my corner light. Also found the windings in the alternator practically exploded

possible electrical issue?

Needing some guidance yet again with my 93 Legacy sedan. Coming to work yesterday evening I noticed my cruise control kick out (after being set on 70mph for ~30miles). Thinking nothing of it I carried on and tried to set it again, noticed the relay would engage but speed would not set. Got to my exi...

Re: strange idle issue

Only parts I done differently were setting up the timing slightly different and adjust the IAC (may not have had it back together exactly right when I took apart to clean it). The knock sensor code that threw Friday night was gone Saturday morning and has so far stayed gone (1hr drive 2x per day). S...

This explains how to pull the check engine codes. Give it a try and see what she tells ya.

Re: strange idle issue

Well after pulling almost the whole top end of the motor out, cleaning, putting back together, and resetting the timing she lives again. No idea which one part caused my hassle but she's back to smooth as silk (but several lovely oil leaks around valve cover and oil pan). Still throwing knock sensor...

Re: strange idle issue

That's definitely where the smoke came from. Searched around and found a thread talking about pouring seafoam additive in the iac main line to clean it...did that and and got a ridiculous amount of smoke although no luck running. Will upload the new video as soon as I can. Checked voltage to harness...

Re: strange idle issue

Well I tested 2 theories. 1 was the possibility of bad gas. Ran tank dry, put 3 gallons of fresh 87 octane, a bottle of STP injector cleaner, and half can of seafoam. Unplugged IAC before even attempting to start. Idle would sit at 750 and die, no erratic idle, just 750 a stumble and dead. Plugged I...

Re: strange idle issue

Ended up buying gaskets from the Subaru dealership and got them on today. Tested IAC (9.8 ohms) and cleaned it and throttle body since they both desperately needed it. Ran smooth on start-up, once at operating temp it went back to stumbling. Still throwing knock sensor code but had the MAF code pop ...

Re: strange idle issue

Got the throttle body and IAC off and apart. Going to test the iac as soon as I can find the multimeter before going all out and replacing it. Main question now is can anyone suggest a place to get the gaskets for each without paying an arm and leg for them?

Re: strange idle issue

After reading the fail safe modes for both faults the IAC makes sense to what's happening. My figuring is the knock sensor being a stored code from the fails on getting back in time but the IAC's fail safe makes sense to why it won't run without throttle applied and the extremely sluggish accelerati...

Re: strange idle issue

Ok, now after some more tinkering today I've became more puzzled. Checked stored codes to start...still knock sensor showing. Started the car and began disconnecting plugs, idle changes, spark verified across the board. Ran active diagnostic per instructions on your site. CEL appears as it should, f...

Re: strange idle issue

Looks like I'll be getting in touch with Napa again Monday. However, with the gears lined up right, what would cause it to be stumbling? Also, when it stalls it is backfiring through the intake which has me a bit worried. I manually spun the engine this afternoon and lined all the gears hit where th...

Re: strange idle issue

The engine is in the 15x,xxx range, don't remember exact off the top of my head. I did push the tensioner all the way left and tightened down in that position. I did install a new belt, the old one was absolute s***. I used the mark on the outside of the gear, not the triangular notch or notch on th...

strange idle issue

After a weeks worth of a headache with my car its time to seek some outside help with my 93 Legacy. EJ22 non turbo. Issue started last Friday morning, shut the car off running fine minus an odd noise. Went to leave that afternoon and it would start and run but made a horrible noise, first suspect wa...

Re: need help. was running, died, wont start

Trans is great. Smooth shifts, no slipping, no hesitation. Tires I usually run at 34psi, 32 depending on condition. Granted I did run across a dead mouse (skeleton) in the airbox just under the filter, the filter was as clean as it was new 5k ago. I'm planning when it goes back down for redoing the ...

Re: need help. was running, died, wont start

Seems I'm winding up with too many projects now. The now daily driver tune-ups, finish building stroker engine and cage install on Z28, and slowly restore the eclipse ('02 lol) that's been in my barn the last 4 years. Any tips on better fuel economy? The Legacy is at 23mpg mostly highway while I was...

Re: need help. was running, died, wont start

Thanks. How long it will last is the big question. I reused the old belt, though it was installed at 120k if you got the pictures I emailed all the black behind the pulleys was shavings from that belt riding against the case. Going to swap belts as soon as I can afford all 3 (fb, vbelt, and ac) and ...

Re: timing belt tensioner pulley. bolt size

I used a 10x50mm but a 10x60 would be the best option, just wasn't able to extract what broke off. It's a 1.25 thread pitch though

Re: need help. was running, died, wont start

Well after the problem happening at 6:30am. searching for possible problems, any advice, and digging through the majority of the car to pinpoint the problem which was found around 1pm. Scrounging for tools, diagrams, a ride to the parts store, and plenty bloody knuckles latermy smurf lives again aro...

re timing EJ22...any advice or walk-throughs?

Can anyone guide me through the simplest possible way to re-time the engine. Tensioner pulley snapped bolt off and through deconstruction everything is probably off. A timing light is not readily accessible either. The cam gears should line up marks on gears with notches in cover for tdc? Any sugges...

Re: need help. was running, died, wont start

You can get access to the flex plate plug without removing the manifold. It may be tight, but it can be done. The starter bump worked smooth as silk. Used 7/8" impact socket, breaker bar with a closed end wrench to secure against frame, cross starter contacts with screwdriver. Now the good new...

Re: need help. was running, died, wont start

The breaker bar I have, the 1/2 drive socket is a negative. Seems the idea for the flex plate requires intake manifold removal. Granted the starter bump idea is a redneck way to do it, I'm a Chevy mechanic so that's my specialty haha. Just crunched for time trying to get back to driveable yet keep i...

Won't hurt to try. Any suggestions for an smooth way to remove crank pulley? I'm highly limited on any supplies. Have sockets and such but no real quality tools at hand and no transportation to get the good ones

Yeah I'm figuring the same has happened which is not good. New tensioner here is $181 and I might have $18 if I'm lucky lol. Just freakin wonderful
