1990 legacy Ls AWD 4EAT auto (SS motor and many swapped 91 parts)
The number on mine is:
TZ102ZJ1AA -4R
the normal 91 legacy SS transmission number seems to be
TZ102ZA2AA-MH
What's in my car>? I cant find it anywhere on lookups, and it need to be replaced.

Re: Horrible trans leak, Then fixed, Then another horrible L
Aaron, if you could find a manual transmission donor, or even a nearby junkyard that has a manual transmission Legacy, Outback, Impreza, Forester, I think you'd be happier off with your car, in the long run. Swapping to manual is well documented by several members on this site. Barring that, perhap...

Horrible trans leak, Then fixed, Then another horrible Leak
Alright, here's the story: A few months ago I had a horrible Tq converter steal leak, the pressed seal around the transmission shaft decided to stop sealing in fluid, so instead of pumping into the tq converter, it would actually pump OUT of the transmission. Up until that point it was my DD, reliab...

Re: Horrible transmission leak.
Yes, you replace the seal when the transmission is separated from the torque converter. Reason I damaged mine was I left the torque converter bolted to the engine when I removed it. In the haynes manual, it says to unbolt the tq converter to engine bolts, then shows a diagram with arrows pointing t...

Re: Good things to replace while the transmissions off?
Maybe rear main seal, usually a cause for leaking oil at the rear of the motor. Also, can't remember what it is called but the plate to the right of the rear main seal. If it is plastic there is an update part that is metal. is the rear main seal one you can just pull with a seal pulling hook and p...

Was it a seal you can just pull and replace once the transmission's out? mines nearly out just wondering what to expect.

Re: "Moving" the front drive axles WITHOUT removing them.
I remove the front bolt on the lower control arm and the anti-sway bar mount. I do this vs. the spindle so I don't risk damaging the ball joint. Either way works. I just removed the front ball joints from the sockets and sway bar bolt on the control arm and tapped them both out, then you can easily...

Re: "Moving" the front drive axles WITHOUT removing them.
The proper way to remove the axle from the front differ is to seperate the ball joint and knuckle. Then you will have plenty of room to remove it without risking damage to the bearings or needing a new axle nut. Remember that you don't need a pickle fork to seperate the ball joint, there's space to...

"Moving" the front drive axles WITHOUT removing them.
I'm removing the transmission on my 1991 legacy ss, AWD is there a way I can remove the axles from the differential without removing the drive axle nut. can it be done just by knocking out the spring pin on the differential side and pulling out the shafts? or do you HAVE to remove the axle nut. (I'm...

I'm putting her up on some 24" jack stands, hopefully that gives me enough room to pull the tranny and replace that $6 seal...mike-tracy wrote:There is an input shaft seal right around the err shaft. Have to pull the engine or tranny if you haven't already

Re: Horrible transmission leak.
it's actually SPRAYING out from behind the flywheel, onto the flywheel and spinning and spraying out the flywheel air-hole viewing area opening. anyone know the name of the seal...? or anyone who's had this problem before. I've never seen so much fluid vent out of a transmission all at once before. ...

Horrible transmission leak.
1990 legacy with ej22t I was on the way to the pick and pull yard today and noticed my car burning something like a rocket ship pulled over and put it in park and ALL of the transmission fluid drained out of the car pretty quickly had to have it towed home. After getting the car off the ground enoug...

Hard to say exactly what the switch doing from your description. If you could trace the wires to the wires under the dash or engine bay, as well as give us the model number of your trans (its on the bellhousing on the left side, on a white strip. Says something like TZ102ZABCD), it would be easier ...

Re: I feel stupid but Im missing a knob on the dial what is
Does the knob only have an effect with the switch in one position? Does the car bind in corners on pavement with the switch in one position? The knob definitely sounds like a potentiometer tied to the duty C solenoid which controls the mount of lockup between the front and rear wheels. knob seems t...

Re: I feel stupid but Im missing a knob on the dial what is
HI, Over on the Subaruforester.org site someone did have a JDM STI 4EAT from....a Forester STi. :-) Regarding the turnable knob: I did this mod w/just a toggle on/off switch on my '90 Legacy so I had a 'locked' center diff. I had it wired in to the transmission harness under the pitch mount in the ...

Re: I feel stupid but Im missing a knob on the dial what is
Sounds kind of like a DCCD controller. Unless your car is an STI, someone likely added it in. What year/model is your car, and what transmission? it's a 1990 legacy 4EAT with a swapped in ej22t it's AWD, I'm still digging through modifications on this car, I have no back history. I'll take a pictur...

Re: Opinions on fitment of 02-07 turboback.
EBay junk. Buy it if you plan to replace your exhaust every couple years. Yes the midpipe needs to be extended. This is an established fact. Why not buy a quality muffler (such as borla hush or others) and quality namebrand downpipe, and find a good local welder to make the rest. Maybe even go stai...
