Screw it I'm gonna import a motor from Japan

I have family there and I speak it pretty well. It seems pretty silly for me to buy a motor that's been shipped to the US only for it to be shipped back across the pacific to me in Hawaii. I just glanced yahoo auctions for Japan and things are looking WAY cheaper. It's just logistics. I'll start res...

Re: Alternative intercooler locations?

Thanks for the idea's. I'm going to keep researching water-cooled inner-cooler's some more but that one short front mount could work also.

Re: How's this ej20g?? Should I buy??

IMO at that price you should really be getting the full intake from turbo to throttle body. Also, I didn't see mention of an ECU unless I missed it on the mobile layout. Hmm.. Well unless its a front clip non of the ej20g's on ebay have the intake stuff. :( You are right the ecu is not included in ...

Alternative intercooler locations?

Okay ya'll, let me just first say, I'm not trying to revolutionize intercooler locations but looking at the car today in prepping for turbo motor, I started thinking.. 1) if I want to keep the a/c, theres like NO room for a front mount unless from what I see, I take off the front bumper beam all tog...

Why did you cut out that section under the seat? Was it so the carpet fits better?
If you look at that last pic you will see the white gap between the rear seats and door, it's just plastic. That's where it was short. I'll finish install today as its sunny and will have more pics :)

I wasn't able to drive it long enough to diagnose problems but it didn't seam to tick or anything. There is grease in them still and one joint had grit in it but I'll take them off today and post up pictures for feedback.

Little update! I'll finish tomorrow but couldn't help myself to post :D http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/05/01/ty4ygasy.jpg The cut is about 6x14 inches. Oh okay I see. I have the N/A witch I think is like half an inch! LOL! Nah nah

I'll be putting on 04 WRX exhaust so maybe that's what was 2 1/4?

I actually read that the wrx exhaust is 2 1/4 while the STI is 2 1/2.

But yeah, WRX is free so I'll go for that first LOL!

Re: Best order to swap out engine and driveline stuff?

I'm concerned about "building an engine hoist" You don't have a friend that has one you can barrow? Sears? Harbor freight? Just looked into it! I will use a pulley system from one to the huge beams in the garage! :D Also, I'll pickup a engine stand for 80 bucks at NAPA. :) Also, I'll be r...

Re: Tunes and downpipe cutout?

Since it sounds like its going to be ears hurting loud, I'll just get it running on the wrx exhaust, then go for a 3 or 4 inch down pipe. If I need, I also have access to a 04 STI catback. Not sure what the extra 1/4 inch difference will do though.. :/

Yeah you're right. I'll shoot for a small front mount. I already have a new replacement radiator so no leaks but hope it's adequate.

What cooling for max 90* temp & rob tune ?

I live in Hawaii and it's almost never ever above 90 degrees and is usually 70-80's. I am considering my options to cooling. I would have the robtune on a stock ej20g WITH a/c installed. I was thinking maybe a small front mount or even meth injection. Only thing about a top mount is I would have to ...

Re: Tunes and downpipe cutout?

3800??! Wow, that's higher than I was expecting.. Hmm.. Maybe I can just stay in first on the track. It really is super small track. Second is needed for the Miata for traction reasons but maybe I can man handle it in first with the awd lol.
