Go figure, I just put a new deck in my Legacy, and bought the same unit for my WRX... Then see this thread.
Very interested in following this!

Re: Power steering fluid change.
Thanks Josh. Seeing that that was the only process I could find doing a search on here (before I posted), I did that Saturday. It has helped so far, but still not 100 percent. So I will do another swap again this weekend. The stuff in there is definitely old. I will also have a look at the belts, as...

Re: Stop Light Indicator
I think that STOP LIGHT bulb is to tell you a brake light is out. So you should be able to just pull a brake light bulb out and step on the brake. That STOP LIGHT should then light up. I don't think I've ever seen it on any other time. I tried pulling a bulb but no light. Now that I look further, m...

Power steering fluid change.
Hey guys, Lately I've noticed my steering feels a bit tough. Car is a 1991 Legacy AWD auto 2.2L non turbo. This is when driving on a straight road, then a slight curve, when I turn it feels a tiny bit stiff for a second. Then it's fine. However, when going the other direction now, to straighten back...

Re: New Subaru Owner 1st Gen Legacy
maybe keyless entry is the answer. That's what I did, for that particular reason. Cost me a whole $14 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Universal-Remote-Control-Door-Locked-Kit-Keyless-Entry-System-For-Auto-Car-/191714174361?hash=item2ca30e2599:g:JccAAOSw9mFWGzDL http://www.ebay.com/itm/12V-Car-Auto-Plastic-...

Most of the Japanese cars from the 80s and into the early 90s all had that same look.

Not worth the money.rallyak wrote:I would just find some heated mirrors that fit our cars and just bolt them on.
I've only come across a set of 92's (not sure they fit 91's?), and they want $300 for them.
I'm in Canada, so our weak $ doesn't help.

Re: What did you do to your Subie today?
I'm still waiting on them, but bought a heated seat kit for the Legacy. http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/mm23/loweredtalon/_57_zpskeoje9ih.jpg I'm hoping that pulling the seat upholstery up, and putting it back down will be as easy as I think it is....but nothing ever is. I'm also kicking around b...

Re: 1991 diffs and transmission fluid change
If the diff fluid was original, more than likely the trans fluid is original. I still think it'd be good to do a drain and fill on the ATF. But the first step is getting the dip stick out. Once it's nice again here I'll get it off and have a look at changing the ATF fluid as well. Car is still runn...

Re: 1991 diffs and transmission fluid change
I don't understand how just changing the front and rear diff fluid would have any affect unless maybe the old gear fluid was way too high a viscosity. How did the fluid look when you drained it? Do you know if the front and rear diffs are stock? The front will be open and the rear, even if it's a L...

Re: 1991 diffs and transmission fluid change
Just to confirm you changed the front and rear diff fluid as well as the auto trans fluid? Only the front and rear diffs fluid. I'm very much up in the air about changing the transmission fluid, as I've heard and read many bad stories about people who have changed transmission fluid in cars that we...

Re: 1991 diffs and transmission fluid change
Changed both front and rear differentials today. I noticed before that the car didn't want to turn sharp turns, it would actually stop if I turned all the way to the left or right in a parking lot, trying to make a circle for example, or an 8 as suggested. Now, after swapping out the fluid, it has n...

So, I'm a bit confused on this page from your link:

Do the front diff and automatic transmission share the same fluid?

Re: 1991 diffs and transmission fluid change
Change the fluid. Your issue is likely the degraded fluid causing the friction plates for the rear drive to bind, which is what you're feeling. Changing the fluid should help this. That's great to hear. I found this thread: http://bbs.legacycentral.org/viewtopic.php?t=39331 So will follow the sugge...

Re: 1991 diffs and transmission fluid change
I have actually read your thread about a year ago. The main differences are I have no lights on, and it doesn't do any lurching after the car is off. The only similar symptom is the 'binding' on hard turns. This is the sound: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=do3YpKMphS4 I know you've seen this video ...

Car has 140,000 kms on it now (87,000 miles)
It only does it when turning tight. Otherwise it's fine.
Car drives just as good as a brand new car.

1991 diffs and transmission fluid change
Hey guys, So, I have a 91 Legacy AWD 2.2 (non turbo) auto. As far as I know, neither diffs nor the transmission fluids have ever been changed. I'm a little leary doing this because of the age. I know on some old cars, they don't like having their fluids changed if it's never been done, and you get p...

Installed a backup camera
So, my wife and I bought a new car, and of course like most new cars, it has a backup camera. I use to think these were silly, but, after going to any of my other cars without one, I actually missed it. Took a look around on eBay, and for about $30 CAD (much cheaper in the US), I could piece togethe...
