Oil pan gasket - replace without pulling engine?

Hey everyone, it's been a while but it's good to be back on the forum! Had a simple question. Is it possible to replace the oil pan gasket (93 Legacy AWD) without pulling the engine? I've been looking underneath and I think I may be able to raise the engine just enough with a jack, in-between where ...

Re: Progress from ghetto beater, to something...better?

(8/13/14) So, last week I was able to finish the bumper. Turned out alright, but peeling off the tape kind of ruined my lines... Oh well, you don't notice it unless you're up close. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v471/tawd/Subaru%20Legacy/Paint/IMG_20140808_130102.jpg In addition to this, I decid...

Re: Progress from ghetto beater, to something...better?

That's kinda what I'm thinking, because I am planning to tint.. I'll see how far my plasti-dip goes, if I run out before hitting the roof, then I'll go with black! :)

Re: Progress from ghetto beater, to something...better?

That's what I'm worried about. I picked this specific weather sealant foam because it stated that it is weather proof. Even so, I'm not counting on it to last. *shrugs* Here is some more progress. Apparently I'm doing this in no particular order. Hahah. Just randomly spraying panels/doors. (1st coat...

Re: Progress from ghetto beater, to something...better?

Alright, sorry for the long delay.. Now, for an update. Let me show you my ghetto fix. I coated the rusty spots with primer and paint, then went to filling in the holes/gaps. I first used aluminum tape, then filled with expansion/insulation foam, then used bondo glass. I did a horrible job, but I wa...

Re: Progress from ghetto beater, to something...better?

Haha, yeah, should've just left it. Haha. Oh well. And Nohbdy, I completely agree. Thing is, I SUCK at welding, and I don't have access to a welder - aaaaannnd it's not really worth it to me (to pay to rent one, and screw up attempting to tack on the sheet metal), so I'm ghetto rigging it. Hah. Even...

Re: Progress from ghetto beater, to something...better?

Got some more progress.....sort of. More like one step forward and two steps back. Decided to tackle the rust spots today, which may have been a mistake. The rust on the two front fenders was much worse than I thought. I started by taking off the mudguards, then the whole thing fell apart. Haha. Tak...

I actually have a question, even though it's not my thread...

Where do you get the R134a fittings? And how to you install them?

Re: Gear oil performance? Take a look...

Well, got my trans full of the Subaru Certified 75W-90. So far I've noticed no difference from Amsoil Severe Gear. Still notchy as hell into first and reverse. Regular shifts are no smoother. Needed to be changed anyway, so certainly not a waste. And price is comparable to the Amsoil. But its no ma...

Re: Progress from ghetto beater, to something...better?

Nice work! Looks like its more beat than meets the eye, but you've been improving her pretty nicely. Thanks for the props! I think all the major bodywork that I had planned is done, now I'm going to move on to prep for my ghetto paint job. I may get started on it tomorrow, in fact. 1/4 panel rust r...

Re: Progress from ghetto beater, to something...better?

Now that the easy part was done, time to get to work on the tough stuff. I went to the junkyard and got a replacement headlight housing, along with a replacement front bumper reinforcement. I also found that my driver's side turn lamp mount was cracked/broken, so I had to grab another one of those f...

7/11/14 - Did some more work! So the wife and I recently got back from a 2,000 mile road trip up to Olympic National Park in Washington state. We decided to take my Legacy after all the work I've done to see if it was up to the task. Made the trip there and back without any major problems! http://im...

Re: Progress from ghetto beater, to something...better?

You can use a multimeter to check the resistance between the contacts and the strips on the window. So, check the resistance between the 2 contacts? I'm assuming it would be pretty high even if it were normal....but then again, as long as it's not infinity then we should be good. Thanks for the ins...

Re: Power Steering pump seal kit install

Thats stupid. What good is a kit that doesnt include the bearing. Well i guess it seals but i bet my bearing is bad after 200k miles. I'm right there with ya, I don't know why these kits don't include the bearing! Again, I consider myself very lucky that my bearing was still good. But, who knows ho...

Josh, were you able to find any new info about the change in fluid? Same thing as Extra-S, or something else?

Re: Power Steering pump seal kit install

Does it come with a new bearing too? Unfortunately the kit that I bought didn't come with the bearing. In fact, I was reading through Josh's posts about rebuilding his P/S pump, and it looks like the bearing is REALLY hard to come by. Someone on this forum even went to the bearing manufacturer to s...

Power Steering pump seal kit install

So a little while ago I decided to replace all of the seals in my power steering pump, seeing as how there is a nice collection of sticky fluid greased all around the pump, onto the block/alternator/etc. Despite the leaks, I've never really had a problem with the pump or steering - no squeaks, smoot...

Re: A/C Clicking off and on rapidly, here's what I've done..

Well, I haven't gotten around to testing the outside vs inside temperature just yet, as I've been doing other projects (eg just finished installing new KYB struts all around). However, on the way back home from work I took this video in an attempt to hear the clicking I'm talking about. It seems to ...
