I was thinking maf related too at first, but would that cause no fuel or spark? I have tried cranking with maf unplugged and still didn't start. I ordered a camshaft sensor and will be installing that next.

If you get ecu code 45 than try replacing the pressure bypass valve. I was experiencing similar issues (although not exactly the same) and thats what was causing it for me. Solved the problem. Bad pressure exchange solenoid. I found one out of a forester xt at an auto wrecker and it was 100% compadible. Problem is completely gone and it builds boost smoother now.
