Update - new questions

So I checked the fuses for the Heater, there are 2 @ 15amps Both were fried, so I removed both and replaced one with a new fuese. The blower started working again like previously. Then I moved the fuse to the other spot and same thing. My questions: Why are there two 15 fuses? What happens if I just...

AC compressor and fan

My interior climate control fan stopped working yesterday, never had any indication that it was near the end... None of the settings 1-4 work. My AC compressor has been making sound when turned to AC. No sound when AC is not engaged, but when engaged the compressor is making almost a bad bearing sou...

CA smog test

Hey, I had a shop pre test for smog, it failed, the mechanic said it only failed at idle ~750 RPMs due to high hydrocarbons, so he sent me to a test station where he knew the guy and he just held the idle RPMs at ~1000, I passed!! Now that I'm all legal with registration, title, smog test, I would l...

Howdy all, There are quite a few 91 L here, eh?! Any of those 5MT AWD wagons? I'm the third owner after it was donated to KPBS I assume because it failed the CA smog test. After the donation it went through 4 used car dealers in 10 days before I got it well overpriced with 170500mi on it. but oh wel...

tune-up

Hey there I am still very new at watercooled newer cars. I have a '70 VW Bus and do all the work myself... Now I got this 91 non turbo, and I like to keep my cars stock. I really want to do a tune up and through searching around it is a lot less involved than what I'm used to (adjusting valves, set ...

How fast are you guys usually going on the freeway? How about RPMs, I try to shift around 3000, I just don't want to strain my 171k mi travelled car anymore. not much more power up higher anyways for a non turbo is there, I went up to 3500 once and not too much more acceleration... I go about 75-80m...

Yeah, its real easy, or it was for me and I'm a beginner... I might miss a step, but here it goes... - Unscrew the door handle (big pull bar) from the top and bottom, on top there is a spongy black earplug thingy that hides the screw, on the bottom there's a plastic square hiding the screw. - Pull t...

The rubber boot over the guide was almost gone on the side with the bigger pads (less worn). So can you slide the caliper off the guide after loosening the bolt, so I can leave the other assembly on the car? I'll try to pick up a new boot for this if possible.... Thanks for your replies and welcomes!!

When I wiggled the wheel (front wheels were above ground) I could see the CV joint move inside the knuckle. everything else seemed to look tight. So do you think I can take off the knuckle and take it to subaru to have them press in a new bearing? How much of a process is all that, e.g. taking the k...

"You really should clean the caliper guide pins and re-grease them if you didn't."

Where do I find those? Is one of the guides where I loosened the bottom bolt to flip up the caliper? Do you usually do that with all guides front brakes and back everytime you change pads?

Thanks

loose front wheel

Helloes, I have a 1991 Legacy L AWD wagon, when I did a stock brake pad swap I noticed that my front left wheel was loose, when all the lug nuts were tight, so I wiggled the tire while looking behind it. There I saw that my CV boot is completely destroied, I noticed this before and am planning on ch...

Stock Brakes

Howdy all, I bought my 1991 Legacy L AWD a month ago and noticed that the front brakepads were about 1/4inch left. So I ordered stock OEM pads for the front and back. Fronts went in really quick, (I love disc brakes, I'm used to VW Bus Drum brakes...) The back ones though were of different pad wear ...
