Re: 93 Legacy Wagon non turbo engine replacement question
The 90-91 EJ22 had 3 plugs on the engine harness. The 92-94 only had 2. All gen 1 legacies were OBD1.

Re: TPS readings goofy
I would check the wiring. I was getting a code 41. I checked the wiring and found the wire jackets cracked and in some places missing. I replaced the bad wiring and the code went away.

Mine came off really easy after they broke loose. Car runs better then it did before. Do you know if they have been off before? Someone could have lock tighten them on.

Re: Possible HG Failure 91 Leagacy SS
Okay I will do that. I have a spare manifold on my parts N/A motor that I can mess with. I'll post some pics up in the next few days whenever I order the parts. I think I will end up getting a TD05 16 or 18G. When I bought the TD04 I had not made plans on going full standalone anytime soon. I also p...

Re: Possible HG Failure 91 Leagacy SS
Thanks Josh. This is extremely help full. The Haltech requires an IAT sensor so I will just locate it in the same position as yours.

Thanks!
Josh, are you running a MAP sensor with your Link? If so where did you locate the sensor? I want to run the Haltech 3 bar MAP sensor.

I pretty much have the car all back together now. http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e75/partybob2006/IMG_0673.jpg The thermostat was bad so I picked up an OEM one. http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e75/partybob2006/IMG_0666.jpg The y-pipe I modified. http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e75/partybob200...

Re: Impreza's # 3 cylinder spark plug threads are toast
I have had to do a spark plug hole repair on my VW bus. The repair has lasted 10k miles and counting. I used an helicoil as the repair. Just an FYI the bus heads run close to 400 degrees Fahrenheit and are aluminum.

Re: head swap sohc to 2.5L sohc
To be honest....not really. You will run into issues getting the electrical to work and any gains will be marginal if anything. These heads may be restrictive, but there are options you can do to get good power out of them. I was making near 300 chp and over 300 ft-lbs of torque on the stock heads ...

Re: Possible HG Failure 91 Leagacy SS
I was worried that possibly the cams would make the engine an no tolerance engine. I decided to leave them off so I can quickly inspect the belt. The engine is completely back in the car. The only other thing I need is the turbo.

http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e75/partybob2006/IMG_0611.jpg Ready to go in. Yeah I am positive it was the oil cooler. There was oil in the coolant side of it. I wont be able to start the car until next week since I am waiting for my TD04 turbo and intercooler to come in. That all should be here...

Just an update. I got the new drive plate Friday morning. I won't be able to go pick the cams up until Tuesday morning since I have to work. I went ahead and got the 230 instead of the 220. Here are some pics of the progress. http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e75/partybob2006/IMG_0606.jpg I still ha...

Re: Possible HG Failure 91 Leagacy SS
I took the oil cooler off and washed it in the parts washer a week or so ago. I didn't hook up the cooling lines to see if oil was leaching into it. Well I totally forgot to check it for oil....... the coolant passages were pouring oil out of them.... It's not a total lost cause.. The engine had to ...

Re: Possible HG Failure 91 Leagacy SS
well the head gaskets look good . The only other place it could mix is in the turbo. The turbo is wet with oil and has some pooling in it. I am hoping it is the turbo if not I will have to split the case and have it checked for cracks. I could not see any visible cracks.

Re: Possible HG Failure 91 Leagacy SS
It is a head gasket. The passenger bank has oil pooling along the head and block seam. Today I found tiny traces of coolant in the oil. On Wednesday I will be pulling the engine to replace all of the gaskets. I will take pics and post them in this thread. I also managed to get a PDF copy of the Suba...

I didn't have time to pull it off but there is a lot of oil around it and dripping off of the filter. This Sunday I'll change the oil and pull the cooler off.Legacy777 wrote:Yes, the oil cooler is above the filter.

Re: Possible HG Failure 91 Leagacy SS
Welcome to the BBS. If it's a head gasket, usually you end up with combustion gasses in the cooling system....and not so much oil. Another possibility could be the oil cooler. The 91's came with a sandwich type oil cooler than runs coolant through it to help cool the oil. If that cooler is bad or h...

Possible HG Failure 91 Legacy SS
So I have been looking to buy a Legacy SS. I found one on Craigslist. The car is clean with no dents, scuffs, and even has the OG stereo. The car has 162k miles on it. The owner said there is trace amounts of oil in the coolant but other then that it drives fine with no other problems (no white/blue...
