Re: Bad Gas Mileage?
Sounds like time for an ECU upgrade and a real tune. I was getting 10 mpg on stock injectors, ECU and 91 octane. After standalone, 550cc and E85, I was getting 12mpg and I think close to 20 mpg on pump gas.

Re: Looking into buying a turboXS BPV to recirculate.
My turbo XS came with a bunch of washers to shim the internal spring. At stock boost levels you should probably have 0 shims in there. I would unscrew the housing and look under the spring. Under more boost, with no shims, the spring might crack open slightly and not allow full boost...almost like a...

Re: Maciek's 2.36L Turbo Build (RSTi is back! 12.01.14)
Why did it jump you think? To much hp? I have a few guesses why, but not sure. It jumped backwards. I would think if it was from power, the crank would be advanced from the cams. I've been having issues with the torque converter locking up. Feels similar to dumping the clutch in a manual car. Possi...

Re: Maciek's 2.36L Turbo Build (RSTi is back! 12.01.14)
Here are some carnage photos from the ej238t failed bearings fiasco. That's a lot of carbon for 8K miles....on E85. I'm suspecting squirters plus loose pistons. http://imp-co.com/pictures/Build/IMG_0708.JPG Main bearings....look very worn, especially #2 and #4 where the squirters originate. http://i...

Re: Maciek's 2.36L Turbo Build (RSTi is back! 12.01.14)
I found the problem on the turbo wagon.....timing belt did skip.
I was 3 teeth off on the crank only. Cams were timed together, the crank was 3 teeth behind.
YES! Super happy. I was about to burn it up in a fire.

Re: Maciek's 2.36L Turbo Build (RSTi is back! 12.01.14)
The turbo wagon still pissing me off. I swapped fuel injectors over the weekend, but it acts the same. Also checked the injector pulses with a Noid light...all of them were blinking the same. About 4-6 flashes per second. I am really hoping the timing belt jumped, since I'm running out of ideas. I m...

Re: Maciek's 2.36L Turbo Build (RSTi is back! 12.01.14)
Got the RSTi back up and running over the Thanksgiving weekend. I broke in the engine in under 50 miles. Car feels great. I can feel a tiny bit more torque off boost. I'm running it at 16 psi for a little while, before going up to 20 psi. The car did not need any tuning going from the 2.38L to 2.5L....

Re: Maciek's 2.36L Turbo Build (Both cars down 11.19.14)
More progress troubleshooting the turbo wagon. I installed new plugs with 0.044" gap. Started it and it runs, still rough and rich. When I lean it out via standalone, it runs a little better. I'm nervous that I'm leaning out 3 cylinders when one is rich....but it's hard to tell. It runs ok at 1...

I'm happy to report that I have all the parts to get the ej257 built and assembled with the ej205 heads for the RSTi backup plan. I did plastigauge measurements on mains and rods. Mains: #1: 0.0015" #2: 0.0019" #3: 0.0017" #4: 0.0020" #5: 0.0018" Rods: All are the same: 0.00...

Re: Maciek's 2.36L Turbo Build (Both cars down 11.19.14)
So 2 days after getting back from Colorado with bearing damage on the RSTi, the Turbo wagon decided to drop 3rd gear off the 4EAT....it already had no 4th. I swapped the transmission to a 58K mile one I had sitting around, and it was all good....for a few hours. I was driving down a 45mph road, just...

Re: Maciek's 2.36L Turbo Build (Dyno Sheet 6.13.14)
The turbo XS clears on the 93 TW ej22t with the proper BPV adapter flange. I believe I bought it off of ebay a long time. ago. You have to route the air return on top of the TB. I should have some pictures in this thread showing the setup.

Re: Maciek's 2.36L Turbo Build (Dyno Sheet 6.13.14)
I think the low oil pressure and bearing failure are tied together. The wear on all bearings plus the large amount of carbon on the pistons and always a burning oil smell while driving, all point to a lot of oil going toward the pistons.... So, I'm hoping it was the squirters causing the low pressur...

Re: Maciek's 2.36L Turbo Build (Dyno Sheet 6.13.14)
I love the look of the wagon with those wheels. Thank you sir. I am running the 04 BBS STi goldies at the moment....they look super good as well, but much lighter. RSTi update. I tore the motor down this week. Bearings look like they have 500K miles on them. Crank shaft is so worn, there is a hump ...

Re: ACL Race Bearings
I always thought they had to bolt the halves together to bore the lip for the thrust surface. At least that's what one machine shop told me. I'm interested in what you find out, because if they can do one half at a time, and it works good....then I'm considering just converting my ej236t stroker to ...

Re: Maciek's 2.36L Turbo Build (Dyno Sheet 6.13.14)
Josh, I was told by an engine builder that the STi rods had oil passages leading up to the wrist pin, but have not verified it yet for myself. So I am not sure of the actual differences between the rods. I only have the ej22t rods laying around. I have not had a chance to remove the STi rods form th...

Re: Maciek's 2.36L Turbo Build (Dyno Sheet 6.13.14)
I am thinking of capping the squirters once I get in there. I think there is too much head loss with the squirters plus the extra galleys on the rods. The stock ej22t rods do not have the galleys for the wrist pins and piston lubrication, the squirter takes care of that. I'm pulling and tearing it d...

Re: Maciek's 2.36L Turbo Build (Dyno Sheet 6.13.14)
Knock, Knock Who's there? RSTi rod..... YEY! I started to hear a hollow chattering between 3K-4K RPMs, after the latest HPDE track event at HPR in CO. 4 20 minute hard sessions chasing an Audi R8...constant redlining. Saw my max oil pressures hanging around 40 psi toward the end of last session. It ...

Re: ACL Race Bearings
Machine for 5, keep 3 and dual thrust....YEAH! That would be sweet.
I think machining for #5 is difficult on the inside face with the halves bolted together. Not sure what the process would entail.
I would love to see what the price on something like that would be.

I always go 0.25 oversized bearings on a used crank, and have them machined. That way you are in spec on used components.

Re: Oil Catch Can Question
Yes, except I'm running the ej205 DOHC heads which only have 1 port on each head. You can also leave one of each port on the head connected to the center (front) port on the crankcase for pressure equalization, like it is on a stock setup. As for condensation, it is possible, but most of the water v...
