I'm pretty sure the stock offset is 55, and yes lighter wheels do make a difference. You might check out the stock wheels that came on the ss, but they are 15 inch instead of 14 and that would probably add some weight. I'm also not sure how the weight compares between steelies and the aluminum wheel...

I got to wondering where the ss fit into things as far as the Legacy line. Was it the top of the line or was the more luxury lsi with an auto more money. I am kind of thinking the lsi was more. Anyone know for sure?

I though about going to that spot on the manifold, but it was so easy going to the empty bolt hole on the passenger side front of the manifold. Last time I got to the ground point on the manifold it was kind of a pain if I remember correctly.

Just as an aside to this. I ran a 14ga ground from the battery to the pivot bolt on the alternator and then another from the pivot bolt to the intake manifold. Just a little tip I got from a motorcycle forum that would possibly help our cars. It involves splicing into the ground for the ecu and running a dedicated ground back to the battery. One way to check if this could be of benefit is if there is voltage on that ground while running at an idle and also...

My car did pretty much what you are describing and I found the hose off the boost solenoid if I remember right. It was on the passenger strut tower with oll those other electronic devices. You couldn't give it much throttle at all or it would just die.

You might try starting it with the car in gear and the clutch pushed in. That might break it loose. Be ready to shut it off if it does start and the clutch doesn't release or kill it with the brakes. The coffee cup mod will not fix the 90 degree elbow problem. If it's bad you will need a new one. The coffee cup mod just replaces the resonator that is in the intake between the maf and the 90 degree elbow. Measure the length of the resonator to get the length you will need.

That v6 is a 2 valve motor isn't it. What about valve relief pockets?

Thanks for reminding me. It was well buried, but I did find it. It is in very good shape save one spot on the bottom edge where it was impacted, but not broken through. Kind of a spiderwebed spot about 1/2 inch in diameter.

I have a panel somewhere, but it isn't off a turbo car. I'll find it and see what shape it's in.

Doing that swap would require fenders, hood, lights , etc.

What is the reason for no antifreeze? What do you do in the winter?

In case it comes to the pick and pull option, I would just like to see the ss special parts be saved for someone here in the community. Less and less of these around and the bumper and hood are 1 yr only parts. Then you have the diff and rear brakes.

Bikes have been using wasted spark ignition for since the 70's and they turn a lot more rpm than that and there were boosted bikes in the early 80's with that ignition setup. I would say that bad reputation has no basis in fact.

If you had the heater on defrost I think that causes the fan to run.

I would start with the contacts in the starter solenoid. A good cleaning may help, but you may need to rebuild it. That's what it sounds like to me.
