Re: Failed emissions, exhaust leak?
I wasnt too familiar with the other readings and only saw the test briefly on his screen... but the big arrow was steady in the center of the green area. His only concern was the co2 output. ...also its a moot point now, I shimmied under the muffler yesterday and just started laughing. Mufflers usua...

Power steering squeal / whine / tone
So, my fiancee now has a 93 L wagon, and we notice a high pitched metallic tone that appears to be coming from the power steering pulley. I have a video somewhere I took I just gotta find it. Anyone have any experience here with an educated guess? Is this something I can help or just an impending fa...

Adjust / maintain e-brake?
So, it has come to my attention that my e-brake is weaker than it used to be on my 94 ss. It would not hold enough to prevent rolling backwards on a hill without being parked in reverse (which I do anyway but still, cant let the car warm up while parked on a hill without me in the car and my foot on...

Re: Failed emissions, exhaust leak?
Ah, good ideas... thanks! Yep, this is the stock exhaust system on this car. How are impressions / experiences of exhaust repair kits or just wrapping a found hole in metal tape? Will that be enough to pass emissions? Is there a way to borrow an exhaust sniffer from Autozone or something so I can te...

Failed emissions, exhaust leak?
So, got the 92 ss down to oregon DEQ for emissions testing yesterday. Valve cover gaskets still drip onto exhaust but at idle it reaches a steady state where it doesn't smoke visibly. After driving around, it smokes for a good 5 mins before calming down. This was, as I saw, good enough to pass the v...

Re: What did you do to your Subie today?
Hey thats nice, Chris likey... (Sunday) finally had the time to get my 92 ss back together for a smoke test to see if it would pass emissions.... had degreased and wire-brushed and brake-parts-cleanered the gunk off the exhaust where it was smoking before. Started it up, 2 cranks after sitting for a...

Re: Direct fit AWIC kits on the way.
Well, apparently enough air flows into the wheel well areas for the overzealous Subaru engineers that designed our EJ22T to look at it and say, "There's enough airflow through there to feed our 2.2L engine at full boost, let's have the airbox pull in from there!" To further prove this poin...

Nope. Wastegate pressure will always be your minimum boost level.BoneIslandScooby wrote:Now, can a boost controller limit boost even below wastegate pressure if need be?
You can change wastegate actuators to achieve a different minimum boost, though.

EyeSight looks pretty awesome, I gotta say. Impressive. As would be my normal first response, though, "as long as I can disable it for certain situations, sounds great!" That new commercial with the teenager learning to drive stick in the 1st gen Legacy is excellent. New favorite Subaru co...

Re: Timing belt & accessible seals, all at once?
Robert and I spent the day on the timing belt and cam seals. All was well, then the radiator upper steam hose showed us it was leaking. So called it a night inches from the finish because it needs to dry and we need epoxy. Lame. We timed it right on the first shot though, fired right up! Then we rem...

And dont forget the 1mm hole banjo bolt for the oil feed line, or you will blow the seals out in a month or so I understand.
