They should be concealed under plugs. The thread size of the 17mm bolts that go there is: M12x1.5mm. I'm cleaning up mine due to going "full send it" last time.
Edit, not sure about the size.

Re: Philips LED map light conversion
Very cool mod! I've had El cheapo LED's in the main cabin light, left that light on over night, and came to a car that still started in the morning. The less power draw alone is worth it for me

Re: Swapping a 2.5l dohc out for a 2.2l sohc
If all you're trying to do is trade the car in, I'd look around for 1 or both ej25d heads and put those on. The ej25d heads don't have to be from a 1999.

Re: Swapping a 2.5l dohc out for a 2.2l sohc
The ej25d-engined 1999 legacys all had phase 1 engine wiring, mixed with phase 2 transmission electronics. The ej22-engined 1999 legacys had phase 2 engine and transmission wiring. That makes the ecu the problem main. There's no ej22 ecu that supported phase 1 engine and phase 2 transmission. In old...

Re: Swapping a 2.5l dohc out for a 2.2l sohc
The 1999 is a "special" car with a mix of phase 2 and 1 electronics. Do you want to do the minimum of work and have a reliable running car with virtually no incompatibilities? Your best bet is to throw those ej25d heads on a different block (whether that is an ej251, ej25d, ej22e, etc). If...

It's not a good idea to loosen just one headbolt, but from all the evidence, my gut feeling is you're gonna need a new head. So I'd say go for it!

Re: Mike-Tracy's New 92 SS
Just as an update, I definitely haven't finished this build but have been driving around on weekends. Up to 450 miles on the rebuilt engine. I have to do a full drivetrain swap for a family member, and also bought a Baja that needs work. Once those vehicles are done, I'll be back with the SS. It dri...

Re: Strange Oil/Coolant Leak
Do you have any oil in your coolant? Have you or would you take off that valve cover to see if the valvetrain looks like a frothy chocolate shake? Theres really no reason the oil and coolant have mixed in that location. Unless the coolant passage has somehow degraded and created a new pathway throug...

Re: 1994 legacy ej22t swap to 1997 Impreza L
Mechanically the 2005 is the same as the rest of the 02-05 EJ205 range. There are a few wiring differences, such as swapping the polarity of a few pins. But if you download the wiring diagrams for the 2005 that won't be an issue.

Re: Strange Oil/Coolant Leak
Yeah that is a wierd one, it's not actually supposed to be a hole.. That boss is tapped but not drilled all the way through. You could put whatever size bolt it takes, along with thread sealer on it, to see if that stops the leak.

Re: Install Passenger turbo head only??
Physically it will work, but you'll only have 1 turbo cam. Also, I believe the turbo heads have smaller valves on the exhaust. I can only speculate what running an unbalanced motor like that would be like.

Re: 1997 Impreza Coolant Overflow Issue
Every Subaru of mine that did that had blown HGs. 2 of those were even Ej22e's. One of which was from my 98 OBS. If you carry a turkey baster around, like I did in my college days for this exact purpose, you can transfer coolant back into the radiator when it's cold. Now that I have a career I would...

Re: 86 Subaru Leone
I think the reason people usually go with oversize pistons is the cylinders sometimes aren't perfectly round after time. They become slightly ovaled and the boring out brings them back to basically perfect again.

When you do the wiring merge, you'll choose to keep the heater control wiring & plugs and anything else on the car you want.

Re: 1994 legacy ej22t swap to 1997 Impreza L
You would only be merging inputs/outputs from the ecu, so you'd retain full functionality of all the car's other systems such as power locks, windows, heater controls, etc. You'd need the whole dash harness and ecu, plus a complete wrx engine. Hopefully you can find one with rod knock or similar. I ...

Welcome to the site! If you're not a wiring guru, you can mail off both the impreza and 94ss harness to Iwire and they send you back a plug and play one. Otherwise you'll be making a spreadsheet of every pinout for both cars, and merging the wires you think you'll need. I'm not an Iwire promoter, ju...
