Re: Replacement options for factory 5 speed on a 92 legacy t
All this talk of wanting tall gears makes me sad. Shorter gears are amazingly fun in daily driving. Who cares if you sit 200 RPM lower on the highway, that's not what is going to make the MPG better.

Re: Direct Upgrade replacement for OEM Diverter/Bypass Valve
I don't use a BPV. Amazing boost response. Right now I have a FMIC setup, but even before on the 06-07 TMIC I didn't have a BPV either. Turbos are in perfect shape. Plus on the smaller TMIC it makes that oh so great compressor chirp. :) You can hear the chirp here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xE...

Re: FHI 4/2 Pots + Carbotech AX6 Pads
I use Carbon Lorraine RC6 pads for the rally car. I'm honestly surprised at how streetable they are as well.

FYI, most of that improvement for pedal feel came from a properly bled brake system, not so much the calipers themselves.

So what "nice results" are you hoping for?
There would literally be zero gain or benefit from trying to use that filter beyond it being a PITA to mount somewhere.

Good news is, an EJ22 engine is super cheap and easy to toss in.

I've got one that came with my swapped engine I would sell you. I'd have to go down to the shop and grab it.

Re: TurnNBurn's 1990 Subaru Legacy L 2.2 open light rally ca
Since you've already got the hood vents, I'd just make a thin sheet metal plate to put between the scoop opening and the hood. Doesn't have to be entirely airtight, just to block the air from pressurizing the bay. Cooling is one of those things I've NEVER had to worry about with the legacy platform....

Re: TurnNBurn's 1990 Subaru Legacy L 2.2 open light rally ca
Yep, exactly it. Basically not letting the hood vents you made do its job. That's why when I went FMIC I rotated my scoop so it only vented air. Putting a stock hood back on (with the little scoop blocked off) and proper side hood vents on.

Now block off that hood scoop for even better cooling.

Re: Contemplating about a replacement car
It is amazing how boaty even a new WRX feels once you've driven a few RWD sports cars like the boxster, z3/z4, Lotus Elise, etc. You get back into an STI and realize what a pig it is. My stable used to be the supercharged lotus elise, the legacy rally car, and a v8 diesel ambulance. Now its just the...

Re: Contemplating about a replacement car
Want it or need it?
Once you realize the joy of a proper RWD sportscar, you'll kind of never want AWD again unless you live in a heavily snowy area. Part of why I loved the Fiesta is that it felt like a RWD car with its dynamics.

Re: Is STP Octane booster worth it?
Removing weight will do way more than octane booster. I had to run some and mix in race fuel in the rally car due to knock issues from too much timing with a unique engine setup. But once properly tuned won't need it. Weight is the biggest one. My open class legacy weighs around 2750lbs even with a ...

Re: Brake pedal fades 1" while stopped and brakes are applie
Does the pedal sink at all when you apply hard pressure with the engine off? That's a sure way to test if the MC is still good. Should be rock solid and not move at all even after heavy pressure applied for a minute or more. However if it starts to sink slowly with the engine off, that means the MC ...

Re: Contemplating about a replacement car
Get away from Subaru, far too many good cars to be stuck on a single brand. Fiesta ST is easily the most fun car I've driven in a long time. And I did a 24-hour test drive with that when I owned my supercharged Lotus Elise! Seriously considered getting that after the Elise, ended up with a truck for...

Won the regional on day 1, and 2nd on day 2. Well deserved win to our friends the Marsack brothers on day 2, they were flying. http://rally-america.com/events/2015/OTRR The reason the results don't show is because we weren't entered as a national event. Didn't want to pay the extra $800 to have my n...

Re: WTB: SS hood in Western Washington
If you are going to be doing TMIC, doing a DIY hood with a WRX scoop is going to be a better investment. You are not going to get much of any airflow through an SS hood.

So it had a leak, you fixed it, topped it off, now still slightly overheating?
Does sound like the system just needs to be burped, and you have an air pocket stuck if that is the case.

So a few days before we head to LSPR with a fresh EJ20G, a twinscroll TD04HLA-19T, FMIC, and a whole host of other custom affairs. Was a frustrating process getting to this point, you can watch what a typical night in the garage with my buddy Ron was like here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nPs6zO...

RobTune for sure if you are on a budget. He's done great work for me and my rally car. Incredibly reliable for minimal investment. If you want to go crazy and spend way too much time with potentially less power and endless tweaking, then could look into a megasquirt. Or if you want to just plop down...

Re: EJ22 block and heads with EG33 pistons
Thats what I tell anyone getting into rally. 2.2NA with cheap cams and a good intake. It did me well enough to win regional rallies outright. Then jumped to a turbo 2.2T with its whopping 160hp. Also won more rallies. Now have an EJ20G with a twinscroll turbo that I hope is putting down around 250wh...

Re: EJ22 block and heads with EG33 pistons
You know, I've driven a supposed "built" 2.5 behind a 4.44 trans, and it honestly felt like my 2.2NA with Delta HP cams, a decent exhaust and a large gorilla intake was honestly more peppy, quicker to rev, and felt just as fast without the headache of a weak motor (2.5 are notorious for no...
