Re: Kleinkid's new powerplant

Did you bench bleed the MC before installing it? That's about the only way I've been able to get a fresh/empty one to work right. Basically you just take it off and run a clear flexible hose from the port back into the reservoir and pump it a bunch of times by hand. I guess you could do on the car e...

Re: Easiest way to have 20 psi in an EJ22T?

I didn't really ever keep up on what guys were doing to tune these cars. I think maybe link or vipec make something that will work? Otherwise I would probably buy an AEM EMS4 and build an adapter harness. They're pretty resonably priced. Then you would need; Bigger turbo (at least a vf34) bigger inj...

Look closely at the lower mount and how it's aligned with the strut. It's not aligned right down the center.

Re: GD STi Pink Suspension

Yeah the wrx sedan and sti use the same front endlinks and swaybar width. The SPT aluminum arms for the wrx are the same geometry as the wrx. If you are going to buy sti arms, try to find the 04-05 usdm or spec-c jdm arms which add some caster, and would require an 04-05 sti swaybar. Well, they are ...

Re: GD STi Pink Suspension

Up front, a wrx wagon and your stock swaybar have the same dimensions, well, except for diameter (18 vs 20mm). So neither will work with the sti arms. All you need though is an sti front swaybar, which are also specific to the arms you get because of differences in caster. 04-05 USDM sti has higher ...

Re: Steering rack bushings, are they split or one piece?

They are split. You unbolt the mounts and the u-joint (mark where it is), slide it down, and slip the new bushings on. Not too hard as long as you get the rack down a bit and none of the bolts break off in the subframe. The fitment guide on the first ebay result for the whitelines I clicked on was n...

Struts all around. You need a spring compressor. You can just rent one from a parts store if you don't want to buy one.

Re: Lots of Questions about 91 Legacy Sdn Suspension

Buy new KYBs specifically for your car. The rear struts are different for a fwd car and awd parts will not fit. There is other stuff you can do at the same time, like fresh top mounts. Hardest part is going to be getting the old stuff out and then getting the springs off. Rental spring compressor an...

Re: Whiteline End Links & Stock Bar (Rear)

Oh, ok. well while they do go in, there's a difference between 02-07 impreza sedan and everything else with strut rear (90-99 Legacy, 93-01 impreza, 02-07 impreza wagon) in that the track on the sedan is wider. The rear swaybar for all of those cars is pretty much the same, and is the same width. So...

Woah. Are the front lateral links also adjustable? You could widen the track slightly to see if that makes clearance. Looks like that is shortened all the way up.

Re: Troubleshooting a clutch issue (sticking to the floor)

Pulling the MC and doing a bench bleed might take care of it. You basically just stick it in a vice or something so it doesn't move, and run a piece of tubing into the reservoir from the port, then cycle the piston a bunch of times. Then keep the port plugged as well as you can until it's reattached...

Re: 1993 L wagon brake rocommendations

I think wrx/h6 moves the bias forward. Going to the smaller 276mm 2-pots found on the RS, turbo legacy, newer non-wrx impreza etc plus h6 in the rear keeps things even. I have it in a thread somewhere. Going to the newer stuff gives you calipers that operate smoothly and it's easier to find good pad...

Re: Negative camber alignment with no RSB?

I like to have more negative camber up front vs the rear. In your case it will be especially helpful, because without a rear swaybar you have way more weight transfer and roll up front, so you need more negative camber to balance it out and maintain good tread contact. Since the only stock adjustmen...

Re: Softer rear springs for rallyx?

Softer rear springs are just going to make the car push and not want to turn in. But springs from a wrx of the same year range would be the best fit. When installed on a "narrow" car, the 02-07 impreza sedan stuff slightly binds the suspension, more so in the rear. That's probably more why...

Re: Re-built 5MT vs. 6MT wap

Doesn't the 6mt have the shortest 2nd gear and the closest gap between 2nd and 3rd? seems like that would be helpful for rallyx, along with dccd.

Plus with the 6-speed you get a good front lsd, and if you scrouge up the full drivetrain a nice rear lsd as well.

Re: Re-built 5MT vs. 6MT wap

Torque split depends on which year it's out of. Some are 35:65 (04-05 usdm?), newer ones are 41:59. I think the 5-speed dccd boxes might be 45:55. I think it's all listed in the rallispec trans chart: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2173258 DCCD basically works by adding lockup when...

What calipers are you using? Another option would be to turn down the hub so it fits under a standard 5x100 rotor. That's what LIC did with their conversion hubs. They also offered machined and re-drilled uprights to work with the 5x100 struts. http://www.licmotorsports.com/products/lic-motorsports-...

Re: Subaru rear LSD types Discussion

The extra confusing thing is that it mentions helical for the front diff's. Are those just Subaru's own design? Are Suretrac and Torsen notably different enough to warrant differentiation from just an in-house helical diff? Yes. The end result is similar, but suretrac is made by AP and Torsen is a ...

Re: Subaru rear LSD types Discussion

It also depends on the setup of the diff. You can make a clutched diff seem pretty mild and not as noisy by changing the preload and ramp angles. I put a 1-way front in a street car years ago with setup advice from cusco usa and am told it has been pretty much silent and seamless. Personally I think...

Front bushing in the subframe. Yeah it's wider. You can swap it for an older style bushing, or maybe trim it, which I vaguely recall hearing about. I would not worry about needing anything extra for alignment with sedan arms. A touch more negative camber is a good thing and the stock bolts turned al...

Re: Overheating after head gaskets

Yeah, that could be part of it. Torque procedure did change, although I have used the old on one plenty of turbo cars that had way higher cylinder pressures than an n/a 2.5. IMO the main problem is the graphite coated gaskets. The MLS version seems to have fewer problems. Even though 2000's era 2.5s...
