Re: EJ257 shortblock, low mile EJ20G, or rebuild EJ22T?

...and on that note what else should I take care of while I'm doing that without breaking the bank. BTW, saw an EJ257 shortblock for about 1700 and an EJ20G for 1300. How much does it typically cost to have an engine rebuilt? How about just machine work and I put it together?

Rebuild EJ22T, Buy Rebuilt EJ257, or buy low mile EJ20G?

So I started my car yesterday, and it cranked up just fine. However, as I was getting on my way to work it started shaking terribly. It didn't stop running, didn't smoke, no loud clanking, but it did shake like hell. There has been a slight ticking sound in the engine, but I figured this was normal ...

Re: Need suggestions on intake piping.

I think I found my answer: It is found in the following thread: http://bbs.legacycentral.org/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=48276 Maybe this'd be a good time to list what we know about the dimensions of the stock boot. Off the top of my head: The entire boot is made of (originally) flexible material and me...

Re: Need suggestions on intake piping.

I knew you had to have something like that. Thank you so much. You are an invaluable resource. However, here I'm talking about the actual compressor inlet and outlet sizes (which I think I now have a pretty good handle on), and also the hoses or sensors that are plumbed into the rubber 90 degree int...

Re: Need suggestions on intake piping.

I have changed the focus of this thread to include all intake piping. I need to know what are the things that are plumbed into the factory rubber turbo intake elbow, which connects to the cast metal 90 intake tube bolted to the intake housing of the turbo. What sizes are the hoses plumbed to it? Is ...

Re: 92 SS - Rob Tune Dyno Results.

Is this a 440 tune or a 550 tune. I imagine it is a 440 tune, since you're running the 440 injectors, but just wanted to confirm. I wonder what the difference in power and torque would be if you were running the 550 tune, 18 - 19 PSI, and, of course, the 550 injectors.

BTW, awesome trip and excellent job. I wish I could do what you did at least twice a year. Of course, that would be expensive. I had my own adventure like this once. It was lots of fun. Congrats!

Re: 1991 SS, and a trip.

Flanges came in today! I drove my car in, with the exhaust in the truck so I got to put the turbo back on. Took some time as I had to mod all of the hangers, and add a section to the cat back, and swap the flange. I didn't have time to take a sound clip, but I will make sure to do that later. Sound...

I ended up completely taking out the headliner, and the whole heavy ass moonroof system, and I ran a bead of silicone down right next to the rails. and ran my finger down it to form a "quarter pipe" of silicone that covered up all the visible original black stuff. I didn't remove the rail...

Re: Opinions on fitment of 02-07 turboback.

From my experience, if you want it the best fit there's no way around lengthening the axle back before the muffler. That's the only way you can make the rear hangers and the tip reach without pushing the bend that goes around the diff past where its supposed to be. I had to pull my exhaust off to a...

Re: Opinions on fitment of 02-07 turboback.

I have a different exhaust to install already. It is a Stromung 3" Dual Tip cat-back. It may be difficult to add a 3" section just before the muffler, because it has a tight bend just before the muffler canister. I'm hoping there's some way I can avoid having to extend it there without the...

Re: Opinions on fitment of 02-07 turboback.

I'm about to get the Stromung 3" Cat Back installed behind one of the new Grimmspeed downpipes. I'd like to be sure I've got this right, because it seemed like you contradicted yourself there. What you're saying is, if you wanted all the exhaust hangers to line up perfectly, you would have to w...

OK, then my question is on topic in this thread. I have a 6-disc in dash CD Player from a 2005 WRX. (this should be compatible with the stereo in the 2004 WRX mentioned in this thread) I know what I need to do to hook it up electrically. Vortech FMU for additional fueling?

Has anybody ever considered using one of these for additional fueling, absent of changes in engine management? The next question would be which one do you use? ...and then again, at almost $200.00 why bother? Not very cost effective when you can have a RobTune for only a couple of hundred dollars mo...

Where do I buy a new headliner board?

I would prefer something in plastic, rather than pressboard. Sorry, I've searched endlessly, but found no answers. Does anybody have any suggestions? A custom built one would probably cost too much, wouldn't it? Maybe I should get one of my boating buddies to make me one out of fiberglass, using the...

OK so what's this I hear about Water/Methanol injection messing up your Air Fuel Ratios, at least for tuning and logging them? So how are you supposed to tune with water meth injection?

I would only need it for the timing retard. Have a Robtune computer on the way and have an Apex'i Power FC ready to install, if ever I should decide to.

Re: Safe to run 87 Octane at wastegate pressure?

Well you have to understand that it also opens up the possibility of having the best of both worlds. Not only can you use it for increased fuel economy and savings on premium fuel, it also opens up the possibility of extra power. Ideally I could do this on different tuning maps. As far as the risk o...

Re: Safe to run 87 Octane at wastegate pressure?

Water Methanol injection comes with its own controller that injects a preset amount based on either a boost signal from the turbo or a MAF signal, or an OEM or external MAP sensor that you add in. I think the key to using it for fuel economy and savings on premium fuel is driving the injection off o...
