Re: Forester Maintenance Questions

And if you're going this deep into the motor go ahead and get some new Oem head gaskets. You've got the ej25d which does enjoy popping head gaskets. +100% I know it's a big step but since you'll likely want to remove the engine anyway to do the rear main (only if leaking) and check the rear separat...

Forester Maintenance Questions

I just picked up a 98 Forester the other day for my wife. It's got 129k miles on it. Seems to drive smooth enough and shift pretty good. The oil pan leaks and one of the front cam seals appears to be leaking, judging by the small amount of oil at the bottom of and behind the timing covers. 1.) Does ...

Re: I'm assuming this is a suspension noise

Yeah, the tie rod end did the trick. Man...it was rough.
The boot was completely gone and the entire thing was
filled with dirt and mud. All's well now, though :)

Hey, I have a question for you guys. Any of you have experience
with Foresters?

Re: I'm assuming this is a suspension noise

Standard 25 year old front sway bar bushings. They and the end links astoundingly enough seem to be in good shape. Me either. I was gonna just lift the whole front end to check the noise, but I saw that...saw that it needed replaced and took it off. The new one will be in today so I supposed we'll s...

Re: I'm assuming this is a suspension noise

You think a tie rod end could cause that? The boot was freakin blown
on the outside. By blown I mean gone.

I'm assuming this is a suspension noise

I went off-road on Sunday in the rain and mud and the car handled and sounded fine. I ended up letting my wife drive the Legacy for the past few days so I could test out her used Forester that we just bought and make sure it'll last til all the new parts come in. Anyway, she's had it since then and ...

I kind of figured that was what I was looking at. I'm still learning all the suspension stuff. Thanks though.

Re: Suspension Swap

Another thread just prompted this question: Both cars need to roll, the donor car, and my car after all is said and done. My question, can I combine my 1990 springs/perches/tophats with the 99 struts as well as 99 springs/perches/tophats with the 90 struts? Also, I need to be able to tow a mobile cr...

Re: Suspension Swap

Thank you for the very thorough reply. I assume changing the tophats on the rear would require disassembling the strut? I was looking to do a straight swap since the donor vehicle needs to be able to roll still. I'm guessing that isn't possible? EDIT: I have looked through the sticky quite a few tim...

Suspension Swap

Borrowing my friend's account here.. I have a 1990 Legacy L AWD auto. My struts are completely blown. There is a donor car that is a 99 Legacy L AWD. My question that I have, can I unbolt the top 3 mount bolts and the two on the bottom of the strut and just swap the entire strut assembly from the 99...

Re: Driveshaft question

Ok. Thanks. Yeah, I believe all parts are stock. Looks like it at least. The previous owner was using the car as a mail carrier and didn't put a whole lot of maintenance into it. He had all different tires with all different tread patterns and depths as well as a bad drive shaft that all combined wa...

Re: Driveshaft question

So even if I originally had a one piece, I can use a two piece from an auto from the same generation and the carrier bearing and rear flange will all mount in their respective locations? I ask this because the other one piece DS I have that is the same design as mine has a different rear flange.

Re: Driveshaft question

Ok, so I'm not completely losing it. I just checked with him and he had a 91 SS. This is where I have my issues. I have a 90 auto wagon with a one piece and a bad carrier bearing. In trying to find a replacement, I was given a free two piece from a 94 that doesn't fit due to being too long and carri...

Re: Driveshaft question

My obliviousness is amazing sometimes... :/

I thought there were 90-91 turbos but were just really rare. I forgot my friend's car was a turbo but was a facelift car. Thanks anyway. :) Makes my drive shaft search easier.

Sorry to hijack, but is there a difference between a 90 Legacy N/A drive shaft and a 90 Legacy Turbo, both being automatics?

Yeah, I know the fronts will fit. I have 99 RS
seats in my other wagon currently. I'm just
wondering if the rear seats from the wagon
will fit into my wagon.

Re: Will 01 Outback LL Bean seats fit in a 93 Legacy wagon?

Sweet :D Maybe I'll just get them then
and if, worse case scenario, they dont
fit I guess I could always sell them.

Most of the H6 is there haha I think last
time I checked it was missing the alternator
and the AC compressor. And it was covered
in oil.

Will 01 Outback LL Bean seats fit in a 93 Legacy wagon?

Hey guys. I have a 93 Legacy wagon. I found some LL Bean leather, tan seats in a junked 01 Outback the other day. I bought the fronts, but is there any chance the rears will fit in my wagon? I'm thinking it would definitely take some adjustment, but can they be made to fit? Has anyone tried this? Th...

If you do end up getting an intermittent one Diesel I'll get that
from you as long as it's in my price range, because that sounds
awesome. I'd definitely prefer that over a regular one.

Shoot no, not after I found out they're the same on the wagons.
I may be going to the junk yard after work to see if they have
any. If not and you happen to find more I'll get one from you.

WTB: Working Wiper Stalk for Wagon.

First off, do any adjustable intermittent wiper stalks work on our cars? I'm wanting to buy a working wiper stalk for a wagon. It obviously needs to work for the front wipers and the rear. Mine currently doesn't. If you have one that's compatible with a 90-94 Legacy wagon let me know how much you wa...
