Re: Can I drive if coolant reservoir for turbo rusted and br

It is the pipe on the side that connects to the coolant hose that broke off. I'm thinking that it could possibly be rigged with a brass fitting and jb weld.

Re: Can I drive if coolant reservoir for turbo rusted and br

Is it inline with the rest of the cooling system? If so that would mean my cooling system would not be pressurized. Which means there is the possibility of air bubbles being caught in the cooling system and improper cooling. Also the possibility of coolant loss, correct?

Can I drive if coolant reservoir for turbo rusted and broke?

I am returning from vacation and left car getting exhaust work done. Was told that coolant reservoir for turbo broke due to rust. I believe it is where the cap attaches. Can I drive it home 3 hours or must I replace it first? Need to plan ahead for Monday so some quick answers would be appreciated p...

Re: Sun/Moonroof Problems

The trim pieces just take some time to get off. I recommend getting a trim removal tool at a local parts store. They are not too expensive and help. You just need to take your time to find where the clips are so you are using the tool in the right spot. Here's a pic of the tool http://www.autotoys....

Re: Turbo Inlet 90 Elbow No Longer Available

Hm. Here's an idea: Install an MBC so you don't have to worry about the stock boost control valve plumbing. Then, put a check valve in the hose going to the middle fitting of the charcoal canister, so you can get rid of the auxiliary purge plumbing. Not sure where this is. Which of these tubes are ...

Re: Need suggestions on intake piping.

I am now conceptualizing what I'm going to do with the intake elbow currently going into the turbo. I know that these are hard to find (if not impossible), so I was thinking of going with 5 layer silicone from www.siliconeintakes.com. I thought I'd get a smoother transition into the turbo as well. I...

I do, and my apologies if I seemed to be unwilling to accept advice. I just could not fathom that spark plug wires could possibly be so problematic. In fact, I thought I had already ruled that out.

Re: Rebuild EJ22T, Buy Rebuilt EJ257, or buy low mile EJ20G?

The funny thing is I had already checked the spark plug cables before. I pulled out the ones on the coil and HATED how they do not click. I was fighting with the boots, pulling them back as far as I could to see if I would have enough cable to push into the female terminals before the boot would con...

Re: Rebuild EJ22T, Buy Rebuilt EJ257, or buy low mile EJ20G?

You called it.

The bulk of my experience with engines is with V8's. If you're down a cylinder in a V-8, no big deal. You might get a slight stumble at idle, but it won't shake, like this thing was shaking.

I feel relieved, but almost strangely disappointed in some weird way.

Re: Rebuild EJ22T, Buy Rebuilt EJ257, or buy low mile EJ20G?

Now I know why my oil smelled a bit like gas. I had a cylinder that wasn't burning all the gas and after I shut the engine off, it was leaking down into the crankcase. I JUST changed the oil 3 weeks ago, is it necessary for me to change it again? I used Mobil 1.

Re: Rebuild EJ22T, Buy Rebuilt EJ257, or buy low mile EJ20G?

Problem solved. Sorry to sound the alarm. Solution? LOOSE SPARK PLUG CABLE!!! Either that or the terminal connecting it to the coil. Can I tell you how much I HATE how these wires connect to the coil? Maybe it's a cheap brand of wires or something, but I'm used to getting a very positive CLICK when ...

Re: Rebuild EJ22T, Buy Rebuilt EJ257, or buy low mile EJ20G?

Guys, I'm going to back off from the ledge and give the spark plugs a try. I should probably look at the engine mounts first though. I started it again last night, and it wasn't clunking and still seemed to rev ok. So I'll chance it. Is there any way to tell if an engine mount is bad by just looking...

Re: Rebuild EJ22T, Buy Rebuilt EJ257, or buy low mile EJ20G?

I'm already swapping turbos, computer, downpipe, injectors, fuel rails, MAF, etc. Going RobTune 550 whenever this work is done. The timing couldn't have been any better. Do you know how pissed I'd be if I went through the trouble of installing all those parts and THEN it decides to throw a rod?

Re: Why is my engine shaking?

So back to the original question. Rebuilt EJ257, budget freshening of EJ22T that has forged pistons and stock everything else, or Low mile (Typical JDM) 40 - 60,000 KM (or is it miles) EJ20G? Recommendations on rebuilding or freshening the EJ22T? Which parts to replace, sources, additional maintenan...

Re: Why is my engine shaking?

I don't mean damage from pulling the plugs. If I thought the rotating assembly was fine I wouldn't hesitate to do so. I mean, I now think the rotating assembly already has some damage. I don't want to keep running it to find an electrical issue when I am pretty sure I have a rod clunking, and I do n...

Re: Why is my engine shaking?

I'd rather be left with a spare shortblock in rebuildable condition to either keep or resell, rather than be left with a worthless hunk of scrap. I don't want it to all of the sudden go "CLANK" and a rod came out of the side of the block. Maybe I'm exaggerating, but I imagine it could poss...

Re: Why is my engine shaking?

I'm pretty sure its a rod. I think it's developing a sound. I won't mess with it anymore until I get a shortblock. God forbid I start scoring a cylinder or damage the crank, rods, or block, just because I'm trying to chase down an electrical problem that isn't there. I will check the motor mounts be...

Re: Why is my engine shaking?

Only thing is, I know the BCS vacuum line nipple has been broken since I've been driving it. I don't know why all the shaking now, when it's been that way all along. By the way, it idles just fine. It even settles down into a low idle at 1000 RPM or lower. It's just shaking the whole time. Also, I c...

Re: EJ257 shortblock, low mile EJ20G, or rebuild EJ22T?

Two more things to add to the clues here. The nipple on the intake silencer that connects to a vacuum hose to the boost control solenoid is broken off and the hole in the intake silencer is open, not plugged. The vacuum hose is also open and not plugged. My engine oil level is normal, possibly a bit...

Re: EJ257 shortblock, low mile EJ20G, or rebuild EJ22T?

They were recently removed and replaced to do the compression test. They all looked fine, even though they did have a rusty color on them. I had a guy doing some work on the car for me, and he asked me if I might have a blown head gasket. I explained that I haven't had any overheating nor loss of co...

Re: EJ257 shortblock, low mile EJ20G, or rebuild EJ22T?

I just checked the coil wires. The boots on the driver's side looked like they had backed out a little. I pushed in the wires a bit then started it again. Same thing. It shakes at idle and up. No clang clank knock bump nor squeak. No smoke. Just the shake. It doesn't mind revving either, though it d...

I would love it if that was the case. What does a spun bearing or rod knock sound like?
