In my case, I use the stock set up except substituting the duct and hose for the snorkel. As far as an actual snorkel intake goes, you'd make less power than stock. I've gone through water up the headlights with the bow wave up the leading edge of the hood when I had the original intake. Can't see much use in more than that, and if it hadn't been a puddle, but something with a current, I'd have been washed away. A thing to consider is that I had water get past the inner tie rod boots from this endeavor and kill the steering rack about a year later. Still, wading across while watching SUVs turn away and an Eclipse hydrolock was worth it.
