What size outlet for cone filter?

Post by Apex3 »

I'm about ready to buy an HKS Super Power Flow on ebay, but they come in 70mm and 80mm, which is roughly 2.75" and 3.14", whereas the MAF would be 3", I'll probably be taking the idea from the other thread and butchering an extra MAF for the adapter so it would be the size I need, what size do people normally run? Will the 70mm stretch enough? Will the 80mm seal properly and does it matter that much if it does since it's before the sensors?

I'd like to order tonight if possible

And spare me the lecture, I know all about cone filters. If you're gonna suggest an alternative then suggest a better filter choice(for still about $50)

Is the MAF measured on the outside and the filter measured on the inside?

Uhh, I assume so  MAF from the outside, but very rough measurement, I should probably grab a string or something to get a better measurement.

Also found out I needa buy a coupler for the MAF, so I could just get a reducer if it's too big I suppose.

Well that plan got put on hold, turns out the filters are fake. Might have to find a K&N

I just sawed off the metal mesh part of my MAF and clamped a 3" cone on it, and I have yet to have a problem.

Yea, that's what I ended up doing, not sure who makes the filter but the guy sounded pretty confident about it, lol

for anyone with same issue in the future, i bought a universal maf adapter from shucks/oreillys for 10 bucks. the bolt patterns won't match up. I just centered it up to the maf, marked the holes, then drilled my own holes. A 3 in cone will fit right on. Works and looks great
