JECS MAF Install Q's

Hi there!

I have some easy questions that i need answered

1. How do i install a JECS maf into my 93 legacy turbo? Just bolt in and go???

2. Do i need to do some sort of rewiring?

3. Who has does this?? I cant find anything about it!

It bolts right in Tom. But your car will run lean if you do. You gotta have your car chipped.

So the JECS maf has the same connection and wiring as the old maf.... GREAT!

Now you say it leans out the fuel mix. Hmmmm

Well as far as chipping it i hope i got that covered. I have a AEM FIC installed. Have not done any tuning on it but i have the maf,map,inj,wg all intercepted with the fic.

I think what i can do is just upscale the maf map to richen the fuel.

Thats my hope tho.

You will also get a CEL for using the incorrect MAF sensor. You either need to snip that identifier wire or send 5v to it. I don't recall off the top of my head.

Hmmm so i need to figure out how to "sort" of wire it.

If anyone could chime in on what they have done would rule

i believe you splice the blue wire and ground it

And why do i accutally need to do this to make this maf work?

And yes i still have not done it yet.... Im wanting to know everything about this before i do it. Dont want to mess up my new found turbo.

Unless you have the rob tuned ECU, do not do this. Your car will not run correctly.

The blue wire is an identifier for the ECU to let it know which MAF sensor is installed. It's just a simply switch type circuit, and by modifying the wiring, you fool the ECU.

Ok.

Well then this opens up a whole new can of worms....

Here is the situation. I swapped my turbo and im wanting to run more boost.

Im perty dam sure i cant run any more that stock boost right now. This turbo flows like over 500CFM.

So just by using my noodle i know more boost will make me hit that higher cfm number and max out the maf. As well the stock maf cant read over like 12psi on the stock turbo.

So let me run this by you guys. I "could" just run a maf clamp on my AEM FIC?

So dont run the jecs maf?
Or can some one tell me where i can get the specs for this jecs maf?

Anyone got any other ideas??

Buy the Robtune chip. He tunes for 18 psi and 525 cc injectors.

Please list out all your mods so we can provide you with better feedback.

Have you monitored your MAF voltages? Are you seeing close or at 5v? Do you have a wide band O2 sensor? Are you running lean? How much boost are you running?

To answer your question Legacy777.
Yes i do have a piggyback ecm unit in my car.
As for the mods list i will give you a SUPER detailed list:

AEM FIC 30-1910 universal kit. With the auto sport wiring adapter. Just like SLODRIVE's AEM system when he was running it.
-Control of all fuel injectors
-Control of Retarding timing not advancing
-Control of Maf values
-Control of WG solenoid
-View TPS
-View RPM
-View O2. did nothing with that yet. Wide band on the way
-View boost though built in PSIA monitor.
-Have ability to change values via 21x17 maps with versions of auto calculation.
-Haves a built in data logger that makes MASSIVE files! WHOOT!
-Aswell many other features that i cant remember right now...

The turbo is a direct bolt in for a 2002-present time WRX/STi. The kit came with everything to work. Clamps,lines,fitting,other rando crap.

This turbo setup by NO MEANS was a cheap. I really didnt cheap out in any of the mods i did. I though...If im going to mod the car im going to do it highest standards i can think of. I want a car that will be just as reliable as factory but...Double the power.

I got it moded by a place near my house called Sandale's.
The mod that i have them do to the turbo was weld up a new inlet pipe. So its just like factory then.
Aswell got a heat shield made to.

The turbo with factory tune gives great power! Kinda not safe for factory tune.
Im getting about 10 pounds of boost at around....3000rpms give or take.
It is faster in every respect, it should be a stock 02-03 wrx with ease. It pulls much MUCH harder when it hits boost. Tho have not done it too much cuz of the stock tune.

Ok this is tons of info right here. Im going to some it up, and make a smaller list:

Ok,

With the piggy back, you should be able to use any MAF you want, including the JECS. If you use the JECS MAF you will need to have the tune adjusted. I don't know exactly how the AEM works, and whether you have to scale the MAF, or if you have to change the fuel tables accordingly.

Anyway, to get back to the original question, yes you can use the JECS maf. If you have to adjust the fuel table, I would suggest doing the MAF upgrade and 550 injectors at the same time so you don't need to tune twice.

Sweet. So the jecs maf will work. And yes i can scale the maf map and the full map accordingly.
But i will need to know by how much...

Does anyone know how far the jecs maf will scue from the factory maf???

This spreadsheet has data that was dumped from the ECU's. Vikash sent it to me. Look at the MAF graphs to see how the two scale.

Wow! Thats just what i wanted!

From what i can tell by a quick look the stock leggy maf can read up to 185g/s vs. The Jecs that can read up to 255g/s.

Tho because of this data i can LITERALLY just take all the numbers and drop them into the fic.
