45° air box with velocity stack questions

Post by dillonr92 »

I've looked through most of the threads on the airbox mod.
But i have a couple questions for my set up.

First.

I'd like to know if leaving this white piece in the bottom part of the box is beneficial? (With or without the velocity stack)

Second.

I'm installing a velocity stack here.

And,.

The velocity stack I have is 2&3/4" ID.
The size of the hole in the box is 3&1/2" dia..(pictures below).

So I'm wondering, if putting the velocity stack on. will actually have a negative effect on what im tryin to accomplish with the bigger intake hole.

I was also thinking if I install the stack and the extra inlet elbow, (as Josh did on his..)
would that provide saficient airflow, With the smaller diameter stack?

I am also going to install the golden metal velocity stack right before the maf..So ill be flowing real smoothly..

Any thoughts that could help me or answers would be great. Thanks in advance.

I don't know if leaving the white plastic piece on will help or not.

Regarding the velocity stack....if the opening is larger than the velocity stack it may be more of a hinderance. Creating a second inlet like I have may help, but I still think keeping the inlet holes as large as possible would be the best. Any chance you can find a larger velocity stack.

A place that does metal spinning could custom make you a velocity stack that would be the right size. The volvo piece that I used isn't perfect, but it is plenty big enough. The only real downside to it is the homemade lip. It would flow better with a really good radius at the opening.

I am gonna ditch the velocity stack for now. The box won't fit with it. I did put the metal one before the maf tho. I'm planning on leaving the white piece cuz I'm sure it serves a purpose maybe like direct the air in a way it won't make the air as turbulent

To get it to fit you will need to remove the inner fender and install it from the outside. That's the way I had to do mine.

Funny, my airbox doesn't have one of those white parts.

Does it help with airflow?

I'm with you on that. I have never seen one.

It looks like he's using a new gen air box. The earlier ones didn't have spring clips holding the two halves together.

I've seen them in the newer boxes, but I think it's meant more to keep any incidental crap from being sucked up against the air filter (in case leaves or what not get past the snorkus).
