The steam undoubtedly cleans the combustion chamber, but better then seafoam? I don't see how.

my co-worker says during the 70's they would pour water and baking soda down the carburator (?) before engine rebuilts, all pistons came out shiny and poilished like brand new but all seals shot obviously from the baking soda (best way to clean out a dirty cooking pan btw)

yeah the seafoam gets in the same way so it would heat up the same than water I imagine...
