power folding mirror questions

Post by SubaruNation »

found these power folding mirrors..

does anyone know if they would match up with our cars?

the main thing im worried about is if the plug that comes on it goes right into the one on our cars..

and by power folding, that is different that "power mirrors" like teh ones on our cars correct?
the mirrors would fold in i assume?

PLEASE correct me if im wrong about any of this

here are some pictures

Yes.

I have the JDM power folding mirrors wired and working on the car.

Those in your picture look like GC8 mirrors. ( as the shape and mounts are different.)
And without the folding switch, the mirrors are worthless.Image

If you really want a set, PM me.

I can get some of these for mine, and they're even in white. I'm tempted.

DLC, did you see that thread i posted in the misc. area?
"what to do when you're bored" was the title i think...
but there were some sweet legacys just like yours on that web page.
they were all RHD though... which kinda sucks.

you guys are good :-D
yeah they look really close to ours and are off a wrx sti gc8, i probably wont buy them b/c i still have not figured out how to wire in the jdm fogs using a switch....
after i figure out how to wire in the fogs, or find someone that can show me in person and do my intercooler, then i might do mirrors.
i just can't stand the stock ones at all... they just bug me i dont know why but they do. i want a pair colored abm, like my car.

Watch out -- RHD mirrors are different from LHD mirrors, and you may end up with horrific blind spots. If you can swap the glass from LHD mirrors over, that'd be the way to go.

Swapping the glass is easy, but the mirrors are still a little off.

The pass side is just right for me, where the driver's side is just a hair too short.

If you sit closer to the wheel, it will make the driver's side better, but the pass side worse.

As for painting the outsides, most of the JDM ones are painted, so it will work.

The JDM mirrors are going to be from 91-93. Most everything JDM you get should be exactly one year older ( as they were one year off from us back then.)

But remember that the mirrors should look exactly like the factory ones from the outside.

Lots of differing opinions going on in this thread.....
Firstly, GC powerfold mirrors wont fit because the door mounts are different.
Secondly, you don't have to swap the glass. I have JDM heated/powerfold mirrors on my Impreza and the view is in fact wider and better than USDM. I can see more than before and I have no blind spots. They are wonderful.
Thirdly, if you got the mounts from a Legacy that came with foldable mirrors you could concievably use the GC mirrors and housing and put them on the Legacy door mount. This only applies to the '95+ crowd, I think the older Legacies use different mounting patterns.
and Fourthly, this is a super old thread!!

Yes, this thread got resurrected.

Clearing up a few things:
For the BC/BF cars, you have to use the same year mirrors or else they will not bolt up correctly (as in use 91-93 JDM mirrors for 92-94 cars).

The "best" way to do it is to take the mirror glass of the USDM ones, remove the insides of the USDM mirrors. Gut the JDM mirrors of their folding motors. Bolt the motors from the JDM ones into the housings of the USDM ones. Re-install the glass. VOILA!

That is what I did. I have the folding motors, and the USDM correct glass.

What is the point of power folding mirrors? The only time I've ever folded mirrors in on any of my vehicles was when I would go wheeling on tight trails in my toyota pickup.

It's an aid for parking in parts of the world where parking is really tight.

For us it mostly wow factor and bragging rights.

Interesting. If it's that tight, how do you get out of the car? :D

In quite a few places that I park, I fold the mirrors in so people do not hit them.

I did the mod originally as a cool thing, but it has actually been useful for me.

In parking garages I will fold the mirrors. Another nice feature is that many of the JDM folding mirrors are heated, getting power from the rear defroster. Mine are heated. Its nice.

Resurrecting this thread because I "NEED TO KNOW AND WANT".

Can I use GC8 mirror motors and internals and put them in the post-facelift USDM mirrors and expect this to work?

Good question. I have a few of the gc8 folders so I will take a look. But betting no. Also the gc8 cars changed out the mirrors around 97 so it would have to be an early set if it works.

I replaced the glass on my 97 Impreza OBS and yes it's a bubble year for the mirrors to be changed. I'd have to look and see if the overall shape of my mirrors are the same as the Legacies.
