How To: Lower WRX Seats

Post by n2x4 »

As everyone knows, the WRX seats sit too high in the Legacy. The seat bracket/sliders are integrated into the seat frame, so you can't simply remove them like you can on the Legacy. The best idea that I could come up with was to cut down and reweld the brackets together. I'm extremely happy with the results. It took a little while to get the first seat down, but once it was done the second went much faster. I'd say I spent 3 hrs. total cutting, welding, test fitting, and painting the brackets.

Here's a shot of the passenger seat front bracket (closest to the door) before lowering:

Here's a shot after it's been cut and welded. Very straight forward. Just cut the part you want gone and drop it down. No fancy angles, Just cut.

Shots of the other brackets:

Inner front bracket (against the transmission tunnel).
Image

Inner rear bracket (against the transmission tunnel). I cut off the section where the bolt hole connects on the WRX because it was hitting the floor. I elongated the hole to lower this bracket.

Rear outside bracket (towards the door).

That's it. If anyone wants any other shots, let me know and I can get them. Basic directions: Cut, Weld, Paint, Install.

Sweet, thanks. Didn't expect it to be that straight forward. Will do.

you can actually lower the rear more than the front due to the shape of the floor. just guessing, Id say I gained at least an inch. I can take comparison pics later.

How much higher are the WRX seats in the first place? I was looking into getting a Wrex driver's seat in my car whenever I got out to a yard that has one, but if it'll make my afro push against my ceiling then fugedaboutit.

its not too easy you need to cut all the lower 'mounts' off the seat frame. I did this once to try it and its not for the average diy guy. The welding must be perfectly done as its the seat and your safety is important
