Subaru and other steering wheels

Post by SILINC3R »

Thought I would put this together since there are questions from time to time about what fits and what that steering wheel looks like. I often see them in old Subaru brochure videos and wish I could have one and actually see a picture of it, so here it goes.

If you have pics of your steering wheel and would like to have it added, please send me a PM with a link to the photo so I can add it and keep this thread organized :-D

EDM Legacy SS wheel. Looks very similar to the MOMO wheel (pic 5) above, but with cruise control.

Nice work putting these together Tony.

I've actually thought about getting a new steering wheel, but don't want to lose cruise control stalk and don't like having the support piece on the bottom of the steering wheel.

This guy looks like it would fit what I'm looking for.

Image

Is there something special about this "hub" to get the cruise stalk to work?

Image

Also, are these steering wheels smaller in diameter than the US steering wheels?

Yea Josh that first picture you posted was from an Ebay bid that I amost won but got jipped at the last few minutes. Sold for like 120 bucks. That wheel also had the stock cruise on it.

The hub and diameters I do not know, I am sure Mike can chime in as he seems to have everything lol. But that would be useful to this thread too if we I could get the diameters.

Josh, the hub I have already had the cruise control bolted in. It looks like if you wanted to, you could cuta space on a non CC hub and screw/glue in your current CC stalk. (I had a non CC one before but didn't do it as this one dropped into my lap before I installed the other)

Thanks guys. Assuming I find a wheel I like, I'll cross the cc bridge when I get to it.

Here is what an '08 Forester XT wheel looked like on my '90 Legacy (best picture I have @ the moment - sold the car):
Image

It was a direct fit and I was able to reuse the cruise control stalk on the '08- Set/Resume/Coast, etc. The on/off switch on the stalk did not work, so I still used the on/off switch on the Legacy.

'90 didn't have an airbag so it's not active and probably wouldn't work on the '92+ Legacy's that had the airbag.

Tony the wheel you missed out on on eBay is actually in my car. LOL. I'm currently running a NRG short hug and NRG quick release setup with it. Here's a pic of it in the car. Other two pics are of the 06 STi wheel I had before it and the 04STi wheel I had before that.

All those wheels look great, I am buying a momo aftermarket 320mm 6 bolt wheel, and want to buy a used nrg flip up and hub adapter from a friend that had it on his 93 civic, don't know if these thing are universal type of fitment or is model specific. I have looked a little bit here and online and getting contradictory info. Some say on the descriptions that they are universal and some say they can be used only on the legacy/impreza from 90-99. Same thing with other manufacturers within the same years. Any body confirm that most hub adapters are universal or specific. And what or how should I search this?

Yeah I found a Forester wheel out of an 09 I think to go in my legacy and was able to adapt the cruise wiring to the legacy wiring without much trouble. I like the Forester wheel except for where the leather has started to tear at the stitching. Anyone know how to fix a problem with the leather cover like that? I may be forced to buy another wheel but dont really want to.
