fixing gutter seals that were not meant to last 20 years

Post by dscoobydoo »

So i have had a small drip when it rains. It comes from between the two door seals at the corner and drips on to my leg. So i finally got pissed and ripped out those wonderful black tracks that run the side of our cars. and I find a screw missing and the foam that is supposed to keep the water out pretty much gone and the inevitable rust.

LUCKY ME.

You cant find good replacement parts, so i scrub the rust out, put a coating of anti-rust over it and try and figure out what to use to seal the strips as I can't get the replacement foam . Probably going to be just a nice tube of silicone.

Sorry Subaru but the window and roof seal design on this car sucks.

Glad to know I'm not the only one with that leak issue. I've tried silicone and it made it worse, not sure how that works lol.

The outer trim comes off like this: open both the front and rear doors. At the lowest points of the rubber window seals will be two small round clips. This is at the front and back of each window seal location - so eight clips in all. Loosen the visible screw at the lower left of the rear triangle rear window trim. ( this would be the drivers side. It would be lower right on pass side). Then slowly pull the window seal out of its tracks. This will expose small screws. Remove all screws. Then slowly from one side remove the seal tracks. This will expose more screws. These last screws hold the front two pieces of roof trim.
